What’s happened since we closed

By club chairman Rob Kilvington

The three lockdowns and further tier-related closures etc have all contributed to the club only being able to trade for 16 weeks this financial year. But those 16 weeks were as good as I could have possibly hoped for, with everyone coming to the club in numbers, adhering to the Covid safe procedures inside the club and heading outside to watch the cricket or just enjoy a drink and a chat in the open air.

OUTSIDE SEATING

Everything suggests that Covid safe procedures will continue to apply this summer once we get the go-ahead to open. To that end we are looking to significantly increase our seating capacity outside, investing in more benches and tables around the perimeter of the pitch.

IMPROVEMENTS INSIDE THE CLUBHOUSE

Inside the clubhouse we have redecorated the pool room and completely gutted the kitchen and replaced the flooring and kitchen units. We’ve also cleared and repainted the entrance to the Members’ Bar.

We’re currently undertaking some long-standing snagging issues in the function room gents and we will be replacing some of the cladding at both the front and back of the clubhouse too.

My thanks go to Andy Skinner and Simon Woolley as they have undertaken much of this work and also to club member Nigel Liebweber for his help and support in relation to the kitchen re-fit.

BARRIER AT THE ENTRANCE TO CAR PARK

Since we closed in late October we have been suffering from a number of incidents with people using the car park late at night, partaking in all sorts of anti-social behaviour and leaving a load of rubbish behind afterwards.

This, allied to a number of robberies at other cricket clubs in the area has meant that we have reluctantly had to take the decision fit a barrier at the entrance to the car park just to give us some form of protection.

Once we are open again we will look to lock the barrier overnight once the bar closes and re-open it in the morning when the club is being used and/or when groundstaff are working on the outfield. In the meantime, while the club is closed, the car park will remain closed.

FENCING BETWEEN THE CAR PARK AND VILLAGE GREEN

As you all know, during the summer, both the cricket club and the village green/playground can get very busy. We have had a few instances where young children have run from the village green onto the car park, appearing quite unexpectedly from between cars.

Thankfully we have had no accidents but we feel that we need to do something to reduce the chances of such things happening in the future.

We’ll therefore be installing a fence between the car park and the grass. There will be gates to allow for tractors to cut the grass and to allow people to move from the village green onto the car park.

We will look to cordon off the parking by the gates so that there is better visibility of people crossing from the village green across the car park.

The exact design is still being confirmed, bue we hope to have the fencing installed by the start of the season.

FORTHCOMING SEASON

The forthcoming season will be our first in the Lancashire League. We have all our fixtures and the league are currently still planning on a full season. Clearly the success of the current lockdown and the speed of the vaccine roll out will play a big part in whether this is possible.

In the meantime we will continue to plan on getting the facilities ready for the seaon starting on the weekend of 10th & 11th April.
