Chesney tons up as the sun finally shines

At the weekend we finally got the sun that everyone was desperate for and spectators at the Log Cabin were treated to a run fest on Sunday as professional Chesney Hughes, became the Mount’s second Lancashire League centurion in the firsts victory over Great Harwood.

Chesney started the day well winning the toss and electing to bat on what was simply a glorious day.

The Greenmount first eleven that defeated Great Harwood on Sunday

He shared partnerships of 78, 43, 95 and 32 with Evan Williams (37), Tom Heaton (23) Lewis Dove (47) and Andy McGuinness (15), as he carried his bat for 121 runs in a total of 268 for 6 off the 50 overs.

Great Harwood’s innings saw 17 year olds Callum Hunter and Evan Williams come to the fore with bowling figures of 3 for 21 and 4 for 24 respectively as they tore through Great Harwood’s early order.

At 50 for 6 the damage was done although Nazakat Hussain rescued things somewhat with a stubborn 52 to take them to 171 all out with the Mount finally winning by 97 runs.

It was a very good performance against a team who had pushed first division Lowerhouse all the way in the Worsley Cup the day previous.

With skipper Ryan Senior and batsman Jack Harrison both missing, the team should take great confidence from their display and can look to build on this in what is a very busy fixture list in June.

The second team unfortunately lost in their match away at Great Harwood.

Hamza Qayoom did the damage with the bat hitting 91 in a total of 221 for Great Harwood. 15 year old Tom Nuttall starred with the ball taking 3 for 25.

In reply the seconds started well with Jake Chadwick hitting 54 and Alex Bullen 23, but only Leigh Dickinson and Chris Sherrington with 30 not out and 19 respectively, could offer support as the seconds fell short and lost by 53 runs.

The thirds played away at Burnley on Bank Holiday Monday and struggled with the bat, being bowled out for 63. Burnley knocked the runs off for the loss of 3 wickets with youngster Luca Addleton taking 2 for 15.
