Look ahead to bank holiday weekend

We have a busy bank holiday weekend ahead of us, with the weather perhaps only looking likely to impact on us adversely on Bank Holiday Monday itself.

Tonight (Friday) sees our third junior practice of the season. Junior practice has been exceptionally busy over the first two Fridays and with a fully booked All Stars cohort due to start next week we have asked that no new players come for the next two weeks while we assess existing coaching capacity and space constraints on the outfield.

We’ll provide an update on this in time for junior practice on Friday 14th May, but your support in this would be very much appreciated.

Tonight’s schedule is the same as last week ie,

  • 6pm to 6.45pm – U9s and U11s
  • 6.45pm to 7.30pm – U13s and U15s

Can we remind parents to sign their children in and out after their respective sessions, and also please remember to abide by the following Covid related regulations :-

  • To order from the bar you need to be a member, your order will be taken by a member of our “waiting on” team
  • “Sitting down when drinking”,
  • “The rule of Six” and
  • General social distancing protocols
Keep social distancing!

On Saturday both our third and fourth XIs play away from home at Rishton and Norden respectively. The thirds are playing in a league match, wickets pitched at 1pm, while the fourths are playing in a friendly match, wickets pitched at 1.30pm.

Sunday sees both the firsts and second XIs in league action. The firsts are at home to Haslingden while the seconds travel to Towncroft Avenue to take on Middleton. Both matches start at 1pm and Haslingden will have Samit Patel as sub-professional in what should be an excellent game at the Log Cabin.

Can we also remind everyone that no spectators are allowed at matches, HOWEVER people accessing hospitality are able to watch the match. The only exception to this relates to parents/carers who can attending in a safeguarding/caring capacity.

Unfortunately, seating capacity restrictions once again mean that we can only accept Greenmount CC members and members from the visiting club. Seating capacity can be increased by people bringing their own chairs. If you do bring your own chairs just be mindful of the “Rule of Six” and general social distancing protocols when setting them up.

We have been working very closely with Greater Manchester Police and the licensing team at Bury Council and they are keen that we continually stress the importance of the protocols that we have implemented to make the Log Cabin as safe as possible. There are plenty of notices around the ground reminding you of them but the four key ones are :-

  • To order from the bar you need to be a member
  • “Sitting down when drinking”,
  • “The Rule of Six” and
  • General social distancing protocols

Sunday/Monday Bar Extensions

Sunday night sees a slight extension to our current opening times, with the bar closing at 10pm rather than the usual 9pm. Last orders will be at 9.30pm.

It currently looks like Bank Holiday Monday may become victim to the weather, but we live in hope with the bar opening up earlier than usual at 2pm. Closing time will revert to 9pm with last orders at 8.30pm.

We do hope the weather gods treat us well and if so, it would be fantastic to see you down at the Log Cabin at some point over the bank holiday weekend.

Take care.

ROB KILVINGTON (GCC chairman)
