Weather or not it’s a knockout cup weekend

While Friday is looking quite reasonable weather-wise, Saturday’s prospects don’t look good at all and we will need to be lucky to get away with it on Sunday. Fingers crossed that things improve.

Friday night sees our fourth junior practice of the season. This week the All Stars programme starts along with the usual age groups, timings are as follows :-

  • 6pm to 6.45pm – All Stars, U9s & U11s
  • 6.45pm to 7.30pm – U13s & U15s

Can we remind parents to sign their children in and out after their respective sessions, and also please remember to abide by the following Covid related regulations :-

  • To order from the bar you need to be a member, your order will be taken by a member of our “waiting on” team
  • “Sitting down when drinking”,
  • “The Rule of Six” and
  • General social distancing protocols

On Saturday both our first and second teams are playing Rawtenstall, the firsts travel to the Worswick Memorial Ground while the seconds entertain their opponents at the Log Cabin. Both matches start at 1pm.

On Sunday both teams play in their respective Cup competitions. The firsts play in the prestigious Worsley Cup while the seconds compete for the JW Lees Cup. The firsts travel to Darwen while the seconds entertain Darwen at the Log Cabin. Again, both matches start at 1pm.

Should the rain actually stay away, can we also remind everyone that no spectators are allowed at matches, HOWEVER people accessing hospitality are able to watch the match. The only exception to this relates to parents / carers who can attending in a safeguarding / caring capacity.

Unfortunately, seating capacity restrictions once again mean that we can only accept Greenmount CC and visiting club members. Seating capacity can be increased by people bringing their own chairs; if you do bring your own chairs just be mindful of the “Rule of Six” and general social distancing protocols when setting them up.

We continue to work very closely with Greater Manchester Police and the licensing team at Bury Council and they are keen that we continue to stress the importance of the protocols that we have implemented to make the Log Cabin as safe as possible. There are plenty of notices around the ground reminding you of them but the four key ones are :-

  • To order from the bar you need to be a member
  • “Sitting down when drinking”,
  • “The Rule of Six” and
  • General social distancing protocols

We do hope the weather gods treat us well and if so, it would be fantastic to see you down at the Log Cabin at some point over the weekend.

Take care.

ROB KILVINGTON (GCC chairman)
