If the rest of the season is like this, then we won’t be short of excitement!
Saturday saw the third eleven play our first ever league match in the JW Lees Lancashire League.
Despite a late cameo of 30 not out off 16 balls including three sixes by Ryan Edge, they fell five runs short of Church’s total of 171.
It was even closer just down the road where a combined first and second team met their Lowerhouse counterparts in a friendly match that ended in a tie.
It proved to be a useful workout for all the players with everyone getting some good match practice in. Chris Sherrington narrowly missed out on a last ball, match-winning six, the ball dropping just short, but the four secured a tie.
Sunday saw both the firsts and seconds start their league programme too.

The firsts were involved in a fantastic match at Accrington, just managing to take wickets at crucial times which resulted in Accrington falling seven runs short of the Mount’s first innings total of 238.
While professional Chesney Hughes and Evan Williams were top scorers with 66 and 38 respectively, it was great to see good contributions throughout the batting order.
The seconds were involved in a run fest at the Log Cabin in their match against Accrington.
Batting first the seconds reached 255 from their 45 overs, with good contributions from Ben Hornsby and Patrick Kilvington with 58 and 32 respectively.
Star of the show though was Sammy Greenhalgh. Batting at three he narrowly missed out on Greenmount’s first ton in the Lancashire League, finishing on 98 not out from 120 balls, with six fours and two sixes.
Unfortunately legside wides proved to be Greenmount’s undoing as they gave Accrington a fantastic start to their run chase which they were able to maintain despite losing wickets at regular intervals, eventually winning by three wickets.
Roll on next weekend when the thirds entertain Middleton on Saturday and the firsts entertain Bacup on Sunday, with the seconds travelling up to Bacup. All matches start at 1pm.
