Greenmount’s first and second teams were singing in the rain at the Log Cabin on Sunday when both secured promotion to their respective top divisions with the firsts taking the coveted league title after picking up five points from an abandoned game.
Travis Townsend’s team entertained Church & Oswaldtwistle and the game was called off with the visitors on 11 for 0 from three overs.
Meanwhile, in the corresponding second eleven game Church were 26 for 1 from five overs before the heavens’ opened and there was no chance of any more play. However their five points picked up secured runners-up spot in the table for Oli Dixon’s side.
So it was celebration time at the club with Mark Crowther’s third team – who also won their championship – joining in the festivities to round up an amazing promotion treble.
JWL Lancashire League president Mike Bibby was on hand to distribute the silverware and medals to the club’s players in what was a fabulous afternoon and evening.
Greenmount CC Head of Cricket John Stevens said: “This was a proper full club effort. Let’s not forget the fabulous behind scenes support every week from our ground team, scorers, officials and bar staff!
“It’s a fitting finale for an unforgettable season where we also fondly remember our lost and missed club stalwarts Frank Skinner, Jimmy Sharples and Roger Foy .
“They’d have been rightly proud of this season’s efforts from everyone.”
