With half term and Halloween over we are entering the run-in to the festive season and, as usual, we’ve got lots on the agenda in the coming weeks.

We dive straight into it this week with some cricket news!

HERE COME THE GIRLS!

With the Women’s T20 World Cup coming to Emirates Old Trafford next summer we are excited to announce the launch of a new girls cricket section at Greenmount CC!

We are starting with an Under-11 age group but if your daughter is 12 or 13 and fancies giving it a whirl that’s not a problem. Ideally, we’d suggest this is most suitable for ages 8 to 11 inclusive.

We are delighted that first team player Cameron Mapstone has stepped up to lead the project.

The first part of the plan is to sign up a group of enthusiastic girls and run a mini soft ball indoor tournament along with a few taster coaching sessions ahead of Christmas.

You don’t have to be the next Nat Scriver – Brunt or Sophie Ecclestone – if you like the idea of cricket and want to have a go, that’s all that’s needed.

If you are interested in joining up (no fee involved) please send a message in the first instance to gcc.marketing@greenmountcricketclub.com – don’t be shy, the more the merrier!

Tickets are just £5 and are now available behind the members’ bar. There is a maximum of six people in a team and start time is 7.30pm on the dot.

Why not get down earlier and make an evening of it with a slap up meal from Audrey’s Kitchen?

Audrey’s Kitchen are thrilled to share that they have this week been awarded a 5-star food hygiene rating – the highest you can get!

It’s a huge achievement for the amazing team for keeping standards spotless from day one and to all members and visitors who have supported them while they’ve been getting up and running.

Pop down this weekend and tuck into pies, curries, cakes and coffees knowing everything is cooked up to the very best standards.

It’s strange to have the first weekend without cricket but last Saturday night saw the Annual Senior Cricket Presentation awards held at the Log Cabin.

Amid a season of excellent team performances, there were, of course, some outstanding individual efforts and heroic moments. See presentation article.

And a big shout-out goes to Mark Crowther who won the Club Person of the Year trophy.

Mark has devoted a huge amount of time to the club, volunteering behind the scenes and handling all sorts of essential tasks that often go unnoticed.

If you’ve watched Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams you’ll appreciate how lucky we are to have such great facilities. You’ll also know that clubs like ours rely on the dedication of many people to keep them running.

AUDREY’S KITCHEN

Audrey’s is really starting to fly now and we want to thank you for your support so far!

Join us again on Friday at 4pm for an array of winter warmers. We’re serving up homemade pies, curries, chilli and sausage rolls. Come down and give them a try – you’ll find great quality at very fair prices.

Breakfast is served at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, we’re also offering a proper Sunday Roast: slow-cooked beef brisket with homemade Yorkshire pudding, mash, honey carrots and our own homemade gravy.

LIVE AT THE LOG CABIN

CAR PARK CLOSURE

The car park will be closed for a significant surface upgrade from Monday, 29th September to Monday, 6th October.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to improve our facilities.

CLUB POLICY & CONDUCT

With the autumn upon us, we’d like to share a friendly reminder on club policy and conduct. We have zero tolerance for any abuse towards our staff or any form of antisocial behaviour.

We’re not getting heavy here folks – we simply want to make sure we keep the warm, friendly and family environment that makes our community club so special.

We have a great reputation, especially with visiting clubs, and we’re all responsible for keeping our values alive.
