As we move towards 19th July and ‘Freedom Day’, I just wanted to let you know that I will be confirming the changes that we will be implementing as a result of this in my next newsletter which will be out over the weekend.
Before then can I just remind members that all covid regulations remain in force at the club and ask that everyone continues to abide by them and don’t come to the club if they are experiencing any symptoms.
We have experienced a slight increase in positive tests for staff since the weekend and have been advised that some members who were at the club for the Euro 2020 final on Sunday night have now tested positive.
If you were in the function room on Sunday night it might be wise to take a lateral flow test if you aren’t ordinarily taking them for work purposes just to be on the safe side.
As I noted I’ll be updating you all on our plans for the rest of the summer in my next newsletter which is due this weekend, in the meantime please take care.
There was double delight for the club’s teams on Saturday with both the firsts and seconds enjoying relatively comfortable victories over Bacup.
The first team hoisted themselves into third place in the table with an eight wicket triumph at Lanehead.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Mount bowled a 10-man Bacup side out for 100 with the bowling plaudits going to Callum Hunter who finished with figures of 5 for 42.
In reply, professional Chesney Hughes led the way with 48 from 55 balls while Andy Kerr’s unbeaten 22 saw the lads home with 101 for 2 from 17.4 overs.
The win saw Greenmount leapfrog Littleborough after they were beaten by Church, the new league leaders in Lancashire League Division Two.
Meanwhile, at the Log Cabin, the second eleven also ran out eight wicket winners against Bacup seconds.
Each of the Mount’s bowlers chipped in with wickets with 3 for 43 from Oliver Dixon and two wickets apiece for Kieran Edwards, Bradley Edge and Ryan Edge and one from Max Birtwistle as Bacup finished all out for 142 in 37.1 overs.
It was a total that proved insufficient and the home side cruised home with 148 for 2 in 19 overs.
Pride of place with the bat was wicketkeeper/opener Jake Chadwick who hit an unbeaten 53 and his innings, aided by 43 not out from Bradley Edge and 39 from Ben Hornsby, proved to be the backbone of Greenmount’s winning reply.
On Sunday it was a different story for the third team when they travelled to take on their Middleton counterparts.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat and it proved to be the correct decision as they put on a score of 228 for 7 from their 40 overs.
Main man in the Moonrakers’ innings was Ryan Baxter who hit one six and eight fours in his unbeaten knock of 87.
That total always looked to be a tall order for Greenmount and despite 34 from skipper Mark Crowther, 21 from Nigel Franklin and 28 from Henry Dickinson, they finished their innings 87 runs short of their target for the loss of seven wickets.
The club will be open to members for tonight’s England v Italy Euro 2020 football final (kick-off 8pm) but please remember that due to Covid regulations we have significantly reduced capacity inside.
Only 25 people will be allowed in the Members’ Bar, 25 in the Pool Room and 50 in the Function Room where the big screen will be showing the match.
If we reach capacity unfortunately we won’t be able to let anyone else in and this will be strictly adhered to.
With that in mind it is advised that members arrive in good time to get a seat and table as there will be no standing allowed.
Can we also remind members that masks need to be worn when moving about inside and table service is required for the purchase of alcohol.
This weekend’s cricketing activities begin with Junior Practice at the Log Cabin tonight (Friday, 9th July), starting at 6pm.
Saturday sees the first eleven travel to Bacup in Lancashire League Division Two action while the seconds host their counterparts at the Log Cabin. Wickets are pitched in both matches at 1pm.
On Sunday the third eleven make the trip to Towncroft to face Middleton thirds. Again, wickets are pitched at 1pm.
Also on Sunday, there’s the chance to cast an eye on some of the best young cricketing talent in the area when the club hosts the Lancashire League Under-18s against Bolton League Under-18s at Brandlesholme Road. Wickets are pitched at 11am for this one.

We have increased our seating capacity significantly since the start of the season so this shouldn’t cause an issue if you are outside and you are welcome to bring your own camping chairs along to increase that seating capacity further.

Against all odds the first eleven picked up a terrific victory at the Log Cabin on Sunday when the weekend’s rain seemed certain to put paid to any action.
Groundsman Andy Skinner and his team deserve great credit for getting the game on and it was encouraging to see the drainage system installed at the end of last season pay dividends and deliver what could be an important result.
Chesney Hughes – matchwinning knock
Greenmount won the toss, put Accrington in and the visitors posted 153 for five in what was to be a 24 over clash.
Leading the way with the bat for Accy was Tom Walker who finished unbeaten on 43 and skipper Graeme Sneddon who hit four sixes in his 43 before being caught by Tom Heaton off the bowling of Callum Hunter.
Pursuing a revised total of 135 from 20 overs the Greenmount reply got off to a shaky start when Jack Harrison was dismissed without scoring.
But professional Chesney Hughes and Andy Kerr steadied the ship, putting on 76 for the second wicket.
Hughes went on to continue his great season with the bat hitting an unbeaten 84 from 53 balls including six sixes and four fours in a matchwinning knock that saw the Mount home with 17 balls remaining.
The seven wicket victory moved the villagers up to fourth place in the table and closed the gap on the top three, Haslingden, Church and Littleborough.
The only other game in the Lancashire League Division Two saw Bacup pick up a ten wicket victory at Enfield.
Greenmount’s second eleven game at Accrington was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The weekend’s activities at the Log Cabin begin on Friday (2nd July) with the return of Junior Practice at 6pm.
With no cricket scheduled for Saturday, the clubhouse is expected to be busy for the England v Ukraine Euro 2020 quarter-final tie at 8pm but please remember that due to Covid regulations we have significantly reduced capacity inside.
The club is only allowed to entertain 25 in both the members’ bar and pool room and 50 in the function room, so it would be advisable to get down early to ensure you get a seat and table.
If we reach capacity we unfortunately WILL NOT be able to let anyone in although members wishing to sit outside the club are most welcome.
The clubhouse is open from 12 noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday sees the first eleven entertain Accrington in the turnaround fixture of the season’s opening day. Meanwhile, the seconds travel to Thorneyholme Road to play Accy’s second string. Wickets are pitched in both matches at 1pm.
Ironman road closures on Sunday
Spectators are advised that due to the Bolton Ironman competition a number of roads in the Greenmount and Tottington area – including Holcombe Road – are closed for a number of hours on Sunday, 4th July.
While people with local knowledge will be able to make their way to the club for the game, Accrington supporters arriving from a northerly direction should take the following route in order not to be delayed.
Head through Ramsbottom on on the A676 towards Greenmount
Turn left at the Hare and Hounds in Holcombe Brook taking the B6214 towards Bury
You will pass the Holcombe Brook Post Office and Holcombe Brook Primary School both on your left hand side
About 150 meters after Holcombe Brook Primary School, turn right onto Vernon Road
At the end of Vernon Road turn left onto Brandlesholme Road and you will see Greenmount CC after 50 metres on the right hand side.

Covid regulations
We have already touched on Covid regulations in relation to capacity inside the clubhouse, but can we also remind you that masks need to be worn inside and table service is required for the purchase of alcohol inside, as it is outside.
Please also remember that you need to remain seated when drinking outside so that unfortunately means no walking around with alcohol either inside or outside.
Visitors are kindly requested to log onto the track and trace app or give their details to waiting on staff whilst track and trace details will be automatically collected for members when they order.
Greenmount Cricket Club are holding a Golf Day on Friday, 13th August at Walmersley Golf Club.
Cost of a team of four is £120 which includes a full 18 hole round; breakfast sandwich and drink pre-round; a number of prizes for winning score, longest drive, closest to the pin etc, with tee-times from 11am to 1pm.
Closing date to sign up and pay is Monday, 9th August and a signing on sheet can be found in the Log Cabin members’ bar.

A double defeat for the first team at the weekend along with something of a trouncing for the seconds was tempered by a fabulous victory for the thirds at Brandlesholme Road on Saturday.
The firsts got proceedings underway on Friday evening when they faced Rochdale at the Log Cabin in their final game of the JWL MPA T20 competition.

Winning the toss and electing to bat the Mount put on 180 runs from their 20 overs, due in no small part to a superb 85 from Andy Kerr.
In the reply the visitors eventually surpassed that total but nevertheless it was something of a close run thing.
Jack Duffy hit 77 and Sean Whitehead 44 as the Lancashire League Division One side edged to victory with only four balls remaining.
Pride of place at the weekend certainly went to a youthful third eleven in their home clash against their counterparts from Church on Saturday.
After electing to bat, Church set a target of 151 from their 32.5 overs with leading wicket takers for Greenmount on the day, Luca Addleton and Sam Woolley, who each picked up three wickets.
Dawood Rahman top scored for Church with a good 60 before becoming an lbw victim to Max Birtwistle.
Despite resistance from Dave Willetts (30) and Steven Addleton (28) a Greenmount victory looked to be a forlorn hope when the ninth wicket fell with the them still requiring 30 runs.

But a superb combination of controlled batting and cool heads from Luca Addleton (24) and Charlie Exton (13) saw their side home to the delight of a sizeable crowd who were on the edge of their seats.
It was a case of ‘least said soonest mended’ for the second team on Sunday when they made the trip to Dill Hall Lane to face Enfield.
They were all out for 66 in less than 20 overs with only Nigel Franklin (19), Jake Chadwick (10) and Oliver Dixon (10) reaching double figures.
Enfield made short work of the replay reaching their target for the loss of only one wicket in only 11.1 overs. Oliver Dixon claimed the only Enfield scalp when he trapped Anthony Steele (18) lbw.
Meanwhile at the Log Cabin the first team were involved in an entertaining high-scoring clash against Enfield that featured another great display from professional Chesney Hughes.
Batting first, the visitors were indebted to maiden Lancashire League centuries from South African professional Stuart Els (116) and Yasir Ali (101) as they posted a challenging total of 286 for 8. Hughes picked up four wickets for the Mount ending with figures of 4 for 63 from his 12.1 overs.
In reply the villagers made a decent fist of reaching that total thanks to 106 from 105 balls from paid man Hughes. Lewis Dove also hit 36 and Andy Kerr 26 but it was Hughes’ partnership of 117 with Callum Hunter (44) that gave the Log Cabin spectators hope of a second unexpected victory in 24 hours.
However, it wasn’t to be as the Greenmount innings came to an end when the pro was caught by Tiarnan Hamill off the bowling of Simon O’Loughlin 21 runs short.
Plans are well afoot for the return of our 2011 Treble Winners as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of their fantastic achievement.
The 2011 Treble Team will play in a T20 match against our current first team at the Log Cabin on Friday 30th July, wickets pitched at 6pm.
