Thriller in the sun but Mount fall just short

On Saturday, Greenmount’s first eleven suffered a narrow three-run defeat in a thrilling encounter at the Log Cabin against last season’s champions Lowerhouse.

Professional Jacques Snyman once again entertained the sunshine crowd with a superb 66 from just 29 ball and also bagged three wickets.

Cameron Mapstone – battling 42 runs

Meanwhile, veteran campaigner Amal Dalugoda took another four wickets and Cameron Mapstone scored a battling 42 in a much-improved team performance.

Unfortunately, in a game of ebb and flow, Lowerhouse emerged the winners by the slimmest of margins. Nevertheless Mount picked up seven useful points for their efforts.

A much-depleted second team was heavily defeated in the reverse fixture at Lowerhouse.

Chasing a challenging home total of 275 for 4, the Mount were dismissed for 99 with Mitch Franklin top scoring with 25.

The third eleven – away at Littleborough – won for only the second time this season.

Max Birtwistle with 53 runs and figures of 3 for 13 led the way with support from Harry Nuttall (39) and it was nice to see a rare appearance from Chris Sherrington who sealed the win with an unbeaten 25.

UPCOMING FIXTURES

This weekend the third team are at home on Saturday against Lowerhouse while on Sunday the second team entertain Nelson.

The firsts travel to second-placed Walsden on Sunday. With five matches remaining Greenmount have slipped to seventh and will be looking to get back to winning ways to break back into the top half of the table.
