An action-packed weekend saw mixed fortunes for our senior teams as we move officially into the peak summer period. With the T20 season now in full swing and a Worsley Cup quarter-final for the third successive season, there are lots of exciting encounters to come in the next few weeks.

LAST WEEK’S CRICKET ROUND-UP

T20 Series (Friday night)

• Loss against Haslingden away
• The guys are looking to bounce back in this Friday’s home fixture against Bacup.

Third Team (Saturday)

• 7-wicket defeat against Littleborough at home
• Rion Dalugoda led the display with a solid 47 runs
• Harry Nuttall was the pick of the bowlers, bagging 2 for 22

Second Team (Sunday)

• Emphatic 8-wicket win against Nelson
• Experience laid strong foundations with Amal Dalugoda (4 for 26), Danny Hornby (3 for 39) and Oli Dixon (1 for 12). Jake Riley chipped in to claim the final two wickets.
• Led by Ryan Senior (33 runs) and the forever-young Nigel Franklin (28 runs), perfectly anchored by an unbeaten 20 runs from the genuinely young Mitch Franklin!

First Team (Sunday)

• A tantalising 8-run defeat in a massive chase against league leaders Walsden
• Walsden set a formidable target of 290. Ishy Patel was the pick of the bowling attack with 3 for 53
• Greenmount fell just short despite great contributions from Jacques Snyman (45), Tom Heaton (44) and Andy Kerr (46) who was unfortunately forced to retire hurt.
• A valiant last wicket flurry of 43 runs between Ishy Patel (30) and Jacon Norris (17 not out) brought the team agonisingly close.
• The fighting performance earned the club five crucial bonus points, keeping Greenmount in a healthy sixth place in the league table.

AUDREY’s KITCHEN AND BBQ

Please note that the kitchen will be CLOSED on Friday, 5th June for the T20 fixture. However, normal service will resume for Saturday and Sunday.

The Greenmount Grill BBQ and Bottle Bar will return to the boundary edge on Friday for our T20 home matches, with the usual friendly crew selling a selection of burgers and hot dogs. Cash payments are preferred please!

CHARITY T20 – AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY

In memory of Ursula Skinner there will be a charity event at the club on the August Bank Holiday, Monday, 31st August.

Plans are in full swing to stage a T20 match between a Greenmount Vets XI (that’s older players rather than animal doctors!) and The Lashups, a team consisting of past Bolton League players (not to be confused with Lashings, the team of former Test Match greats!)

Ian Senior has arranged a number of local business sponsors to feature on special kits for both teams with all funds generated being donated to our chosen local charity for this event The Bury Hospice.

As club members, we’d love as many of you as possible to support the event by buying a wristband (available behind the bar for £3). There is also a GoFundMe page available and an initial target of £3,500 has been set – although surely with more than 600 members we can smash this number!

Ian is working on more ideas to make the event a memorable family day and more details will be shared as they become available.

If you, or your business, wish to get involved, or if you have any ideas or suggestions for additional activities that could generate much-needed support for Bury Hospice on the day, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Ian.

Greenmount CC Board of Directors

After seeing off champions Lowerhouse last weekend, Greenmount’s first eleven pushed runaway league leaders Walsden all the way in a high-scoring clash at Brandlesholme Road on Sunday.

Unfortunately, they fell eight runs short after the visitors set a big total of 289 for 7 from their 50 overs.

Crucial in the Walsden innings was an opening partnership of 70 between Nick Barker and Cameron Hanson and a terrific fifth wicket stand of 123 between James Tierney (90) and Joe Gale (58).

Ishy Patel continued where he left off at Lowerhouse with the first three Walsden wickets, with Dom Ashley and Callum Hunter taking one apiece.

Mount’s reply was going well with professional Jacques Snyman (45) and Tom Heaton (44) putting on 79 for the first wicket; Andy Kerr added 46 before unfortunately having to retire with a muscle injury.

Patel (31), Max Birtwistle (23) skipper Travis Townsend (22) and an unbeaten 17 from young wicketkeeper Jacob Norris helped the villagers get within eight runs of their target to pick up five crucial bonus points for their efforts.

GREENMOUNT v WALSDEN SCOREBOARD

On Friday night the firsts travelled up the road to Haslingden for the first of their T20 group games. Unfortunately they slumped to a six-wicket defeat.

Greenmount won the toss and elected to bat scoring 133 for 7 from their 20 overs. Travis Townsend hit an unbeaten 28, Max Birtwistle 27, Callum Hunter 25 and Noah Birtwistle 23.

With three of the home batsmen back in the pavilion with the score on 25 the Mount failed to take advantage of that useful start and a good fourth wicket stand of 98 between Haslingden skipper Sean Hunsley (43 not out) and Adam Masood (53) swung the game.

With two victims each for Callum Hunter and Dom Ashley the home side eased home for the loss of four wickets in the 19^th over to take the two points on offer.

HASLINGDEN v GREENMOUNT SCOREBOARD

The only victory of all the club’s senior sides at the weekend came the way of the second team who travelled to Nelson and came home with an eight-wicket success.

Nelson opted to bat first after winning the toss and were dismissed for 113 in the 35^th over.

Amal Dalugoda with 4 for 26 was the leading Mount wicket-taker with Danny Hornby grabbing three, Jake Riley two and skipper Oli Dixon one.

It was plain sailing for the villagers in the reply as they knocked off what was required for the loss of only two wickets in the 26^th over.

Among the runs were Ryan Senior (33); Nigel Franklin (28), Mitch Franklin (20 not out) and Kieran Edwards (16 not out).

NELSON II v GREENMOUNT II SCOREBOARD

On Saturday at the Log Cabin the third team went down to a seven wicket defeat when Littleborough thirds were the visitors.

After winning the toss, Mark Crowther’s lads batted first and were 155 all out in the 39^th over.

Among the runs for Greenmount were Rion Dalugoda (47), Noah Birtwistle (38), Crowther himself (23), Jake Riley (21) while Ed Cunnington finished unbeaten on  11.

Unfortunately, that total proved to be insufficient as Littleborough reach their target for the loss of three wickets thanks mainly to opener  Izzack Schofield who scored 63 and Steven Morris who ended up with 60 not out.

Harry Nuttall took two of the visitors’ wickets with Ed Cunnington one.

GREENMOUNT III v LITTLEBOROUGH III SCOREBOARD

It was a weekend to remember for Greenmount’s first eleven as they cruised into the Worsley Cup quarter-finals then saw off current Lancashire League Division One champions Lowerhouse on their own ground.

On Saturday Division Two leaders Rishton were the visitors to the Log Cabin and on winning the toss elected to bat.

Their total of 141 all out in the 38th over proved to be insufficient with three wickets apiece for professional Jacques Snyman and Callum Hunter, two for skipper Travis Townsend and one for Noah Birtwistle.

As for the Greenmount response, after the shock of losing Tom Heaton with only two on the board it was relatively plain sailing as Snyman hit 56 and Max Birtwistle (38) while an unbeaten 34 from Andy Kerr saw the Mount home for the loss of three wickets in the 29th over.

GREENMOUNT v RISHTON SCOREBOARD

On Sunday Ishy Patel was in devastating form when he put in a career-best 6 for 21 from nine overs at Lowerhouse.

The Burnley side had no answer to the Mount paceman and were skittled for 118 all out. Jacques Snyman took 2 for 26 while there was a wicket apiece for Callum Hunter and Noah Birtwistle.

Snyman then hit 74 in the run chase with Andy Kerr chipping in with 28 as the Mount eased to a seven-wicket win in the 22nd over for a welcome 12 point haul.

LOWERHOUSE v GREENMOUNT SCOREBOARD

It was a different story for the second eleven who departed the Junior Cup at Crompton then lost to Lowerhouse’s seconds on Sunday.

At Glebe Street on Saturday – after winning the toss – Crompton were all out for 134 with skipper Oli Dixon taking 4 for 27 from his ten overs and Harry Nuttall picking up three wickets.

But the Mount reply never seriously looked like reaching that total, although worthy of note was a stubborn last wicket partnership of 34 between Dexter Crowther (34) and Freddie Collier (10 not out).

CROMPTON II v GREENMOUNT II SCOREBOARD

A day later at the Log Cabin, Lowerhouse’s first innings total of 208 for 8 proved a bridge too far.

Only Kieran Edwards (26) and Ryan Senior (16) reached double figures as the Mount slid to a 97 run defeat finishing on 111 all out.

GREENMOUNT II v LOWERHOUSE II SCOREBOARD

The thirds were in action on Bank Holiday Monday but went down to a three wicket defeat at Great Harwood.

Good knocks from Harry Nuttall (41), Tom Clarke (40) and Dexter Crowther (24) were the mainstay of the Mount’s 160 for 8 total from their 40 overs.

Nevertheless, the home side emerged victorious for the loss of seven wickets thanks mainly to two half centuries from William Armer and Max Cocken.

GREAT HARWOOD IV v GREENMOUNT III SCOREBOARD

All three Greenmount teams were in action at the weekend but only the second eleven experienced the sweet taste of victory.

The first team travelled to Littleborough on Sunday and went down to a disappointing seven wicket defeat thanks to a superb all-round performance from the home side’s South African professional Bryce Parsons.

The Hare Hill side won the toss and elected to field and the Mount made a steady start reaching 41 before Tom Heaton (14) was dismissed.

Unfortunately, he was soon followed by professional Jacques Snyman (33) and Andy Kerr (3) before the total reached the mid-60s.

Skipper Travis Townsend (43) and Gavin Nicholl (22) put on a partnership of 54 for the fourth wicket with further contributions from Ishy Patel (23), Callum Hunter (15 not out) and Cameron Mapstone (14).

The Mount finished on 186 all out with Parsons taking 5 for 38 from 14.5 overs.

At 37 for 3 the visitors may have harboured thoughts of a second victory in two weeks but Parsons put paid to that with a splendid unbeaten innings of 106.

He and skipper Ryan Miskella (39) put on an unbeaten partnership of 153 to comfortably see their side home and leave the Mount bereft of any points for their efforts.

FIRST TEAM SCOREBOARD

The second team fared somewhat better when they entertained Littleborough’s second string at the Log Cabin, running out one-wicket victors in a close run clash.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat putting on 174 for 5 from their 45 overs.

Their leading run-getter was Izzak Schofield who finished unbeaten on 70.

Skipper Oli Dixon and Jake Riley took two wickets each with Harry Nuttall claiming the other.

Openers Ryan Senior (32) and Nigel Franklin (25) got the Greenmount response off to a good start  running up 62 for the first wicket.

But, once again, it was Kieran Edwards (49) that earned the batting plaudits and his innings along with that of Matty Donnelly (23) looked likely to see the seconds home in a canter.

However, it didn’t work out like that as three wickets in five balls left the Mount teetering on 172 for 9, needing three for victory.

Thankfully, Dixon and Liam Riley saw their side over the line as Littleborough obliged with two wides and a leg bye!

SECOND TEAM SCOREBOARD

On Saturday the third team were involved in a reduced-over match against Haslingden thirds at the Log Cabin.

Jake Riley top-scored with an unbeaten 39 as Mark Crowther’s lads scored 107 for 6 from their allotted overs.

It was a total that Haslingden overcame in the 25^th over as they finished on 110 for 6.

Jake Riley added to his exploits with the bat with figures of 3 for 31 from six overs while James Herbert chipped in with two wickets and Dexter Crowther one.

THIRD TEAM SCOREBOARD

This weekend the first team host Haslingden on Saturday with the second eleven travelling to Bentgate to play Hazzy’s seconds. There are no games on Sunday due to league clubs involvement in the Lancashire Knockout.

Happy birthday Jacques Snyman! As South Africa’s Jacques prepares for our Premiership encounter at Littleborough we caught up with him for the first of our new series of chats with the Greenmount squad.

Jacques is now in his fourth season at the Mount and is closing in on 100 club appearances. He’s hit 4500 runs, taken nearly 200 wickets and made many friends.

Behind the explosive player there’s a humble, loving, family man but here’s a few more things you may not have known.

A busy five-match Bank Holiday weekend saw the Mount first and second teams progress in both JWL Lancashire League knockout competitions then followed up with encouraging league victories.

On Saturday the first team travelled to East Lancashire in the first round of the Worsley Cup and ran out winners by 131 runs.

Skipper Travis Townsend won the toss and his decision to bat proved decisive as the villagers ran up a score of 344 for 7 from their 50 overs.

Townsend himself top scored with a fine unbeaten 97 while there were good knocks from Max Birtwistle (67), Tom Heaton (64), Dom Ashley (30) and Callum Hunter (27).

That total was always going to be too much for the Blackburn side who were bowled out for 213 in the final over.

Rion Dalugoda led the way with the ball with a fine spell taking 3 for 19 from 8.1 overs while there was three wickets for Tom Heaton, two for professional Jacques Snyman and one for Max Birtwistle.

The firsts have been drawn at home to Division Two leaders Rishton in the second round on Saturday, 23^rd May.

FIRST TEAM SCOREBOARD

Meanwhile, the second team entertained East Lancashire’s seconds at the Log Cabin and qualified for the second round of the Junior Knockout Cup following a 47-run victory.

Mount won the toss and captain Oli Dixon chose to bat and was indebted to opener Nigel Franklin who batted through the innings for 72 not out.

Franklin was supported by Paul Manley (23), son Mitch Franklin (19) and Matty Donnelly (18) as the Greenmount  total  reached 168 all out in 34 overs.

The visitors reply looked to be on course when their third wicket fell with the score on 101 but seven wickets fell for 20 runs as the Mount turned the game on its head.

Matthew Gilmore took the bowling plaudits with 5 for 15 in 5.3 overs  with two apiece for Dexter Crowther and Oli Dixon and one for Ed Cunnington.

The seconds have been rewarded with a trip to Crompton in the second round on Saturday, 23^rd May.

SECOND TEAM SCOREBOARD

It was back to league action on Sunday and the first team enjoyed an encouraging close-run victory at Darwen.

Mount were put in to bat and scored 264 for 5 from their 50 overs with a superb 90 from Jacques Snyman (seven fours and six sixes) and another fine innings of 78 not out from Travis Townsend who, along with Cameron Mapstone (25 not out) enjoyed an unbeaten partnership of 94.

After losing an early wicket, Darwen made a good fist of the reply mainly thanks to professional  Sangeeth Cooray (79) and Scott Friend (44) who put on a stand of 101.

An unbeaten 60 from skipper Reece Davies kept them in the hunt and with two wickets remaining the game went into the final over.

However, needing a six from the final ball of the innings they fell five runs short.

FIRST TEAM SCOREBOARD

The second team crowned a second home game of the weekend with a 95 run victory over Darwen seconds.

Electing to bat first, the highlight of their 251 for 9 innings was a superb 101 from 62 balls from Kieran Edwards who hit six fours and seven sixes.

Noah Birtwistle (36), Rion Dalugoda (26) and Ryan Senior (21) also had useful knocks.

The Darwen innings never seriously looked like overhauling that score and they slumped to 156 all out in the 32^nd over.

Noah Birtwistle took four wickets, Rion Dalugoda three, with two for Harry Nuttall and one from Danny Hornby.

SECOND TEAM SCOREBOARD

On Bank Holiday Monday the third team travelled to Burnley and went down to a 25-run defeat.

Burnley chose to bat and were dismissed for 93 thanks to a great spell of bowling from Noah Birtwistle who took 6 for 12 from 6.5 overs.  Brother Max took 2 for 5 with one wicket apiece for Luca Addleton and Iain Malone.

Any hopes of making it a clean sweep of five victories from five for the weekend were soon dashed as Greenmount’s reply was soon in trouble at 5 for 4.

And despite a stubborn 23 from Iain Malone, the Mount were dismissed for 68 in the 24^th over.

THIRD TEAM SCOREBOARD

All three Greenmount senior teams were in action at the weekend and all three suffered narrow defeats – none more disappointing than the first eleven who entertained Todmorden at home.

The Mount dragged defeat from the jaws of victory as – chasing the visitors’ 207 for 8 – they slumped from a promising 168 for 2 to fall three runs short of a win in only the 41st over.

Restricting Todmorden – who finished runners-up in the table last summer – to 207 was no mean feat as Callum Hunter (3 for 58); professional Jacques Snyman (2 for 52) and Amal Dalugoda (2 for 52) took the lion’s share of the wickets with Ishy Patel (1 for 26) getting the remaining one.

All seemed fine in the reply when Snyman again showed his class with a fine knock of 94 while Tom Heaton (45) and Gavin Nichol (28) helped the score along comfortably.

However, with the dismissal of Snyman with the score on 168. the next 37 runs saw eight wickets fall which proved the Mount’s undoing.

On a truly frustrating afternoon, the scant consolation from the defeat is the five bonus points picked up for getting so close in the run chase.

FIRST TEAM SCOREBOARD

Meanwhile, at Centre Vale, the second team were taking on Todmorden’s twos and went down to a 43 run defeat.

Todmorden won the toss, elected to bat and scored 162 for 6 from their 45 overs.

Ewan Malone took two wickets and there was one apiece for Rion Dalugoda; Harry Nuttall and skipper Oli Dixon.

That total never seemed likely to be overhauled despite decent knocks from Jack Hallows (29); Rion Dalugoda (28) and Harry Nuttall (24), with the final wicket falling on 149.

SECOND TEAM SCOREBOARD

The third team kicked-off their 2026 campaign with a home game against a strong Enfield team on Saturday afternoon.

After winning the toss, Enfield chose to bat and put on 147 for 7 from their 40 overs.

Greenmount’s wickets were shared between Dexter Crowther (4 for 37) and Edward Cunnington (3 for 20).

Unluckily, the thirds fell nine runs short of what was required despite some useful knocks throughout the Mount innings with seven players in double figures and Freddie Collier unbeaten on nine when the final wicket – that of the evergreen Wes Young – fell.

THIRD TEAM SCOREBOARD

Two defeats on the first weekend of the 2026 campaign was not the outcome both Greenmount’s first and second elevens were hoping for, but facing strong opponents in their respective higher divisions, there is still room for encouragement over the summer.

The firsts travelled to Burnley on Sunday and, on a wicket that offered nothing for batsmen but plenty for spinners, bowled the home side out for 120 in the 47^th over.

Tormentor-in-chief for the Mount was returning professional Jacques Snyman who finished with fabulous figures of 6 for 32 from 15 overs. Callum Hunter also helped himself to three wickets.

In reply the villagers were soon in trouble on 6 for 3 with Tom Heaton, Snyman and Gavin Nichol back in the shed.

Skipper Travis Townsend followed with the score on 13 before there was something of a recovery as Max Birtwistle (14) and Cameron Mapstone (20) put on 35 before the latter fell with the score on 48.

Despite a stubborn unbeaten 18 from Ishy Patel the Greenmount total fell short at 91 all out in the 43^rd over to go down by 29 runs.

In retrospect, Mount were left to rue 19 extras and a couple of dropped catches that could have swung the game their way but it was encouraging to pick up five bonus points (3 batting, 2 bowling)  from the defeat, and those small margins could be crucial as the side look to establish themselves throughout the summer.

FIRST TEAM SCOREBOARD

Meanwhile, it was a tough afternoon for a young second string side that took on a strong Burnley seconds at the Log Cabin.

Burnley won the toss and elected to bat. It proved to be the correct decision as – in marked contrast to the track at Turf Moor – the Mount wicket was highly conducive to run-scoring.

The visitors racked up 261 for 4 from their 45 overs with the experienced Mathew Roberts hitting 100 from 118 balls with Aarav Neherkar and Ali Syed each scoring 44.

The Greenmount reply relied on the senior statesmen in the team with Matty Donnelly hitting 34; Kieran Edwards 25 and Nigel Franklin 18.

Skipper Oli Dixon’s was the final wicket to fall at 119 as Burnley claimed a 142 run triumph.

SECOND TEAM SCOREBOARD

The Knights signed off a superb 2025/26 domestic season in style last Sunday, clinching the CSA Division 2 One-Day Cup to complete a memorable treble.

Mount’s South African professional Jacques Snyman scored the third most runs in the competition with 379 at an average of 47.37.

It may still feel like winter, but it’s only a month until we have the pleasure of seeing him plying his trade back at Greenmount.

Massive congrats to Jacques on a fantastic season.

We are pleased to announce a new online approach to our club membership renewal process. This change offers multiple benefits for both the club and its members.

We would once again like to thank Helen Bowker for 28 years of amazing volunteer service as our membership secretary.

We also recognise that for some, moving online may seem a bit daunting; however, please be assured that the system is straightforward and easy to use.

The purpose of this post is to give you a “heads up” on what to expect. We will be sending our individual emails over the next few days to enable you to renew your membership.

Step-by-step guide

The process is very simple but if you need a bit of direction, here is how it works:

• 1 Look for the email: You will receive a communication with Greenmount Cricket Club in bold black type. The call to action will be: Create Password.
• 2 Verify: You will be asked to verify your email address. Once verified, you will reach the “My Account” screen. The second line down will be “My membership renewal”.
• 3 Choose Your Category: There will be three choices: Adult Cricket Player; Social Member or Senior Social Member.
• 4 Payment: Choose your category and follow the standard payment process as you would with any other online transaction.
• 5 Handy Tip: Make sure you read and tick the Code of Conduct section, otherwise you will not be able to proceed.
• 6 Confirmation: You will receive an “Order Summary” screen to confirm, followed by an email containing your order confirmation number
• 7 Activation: Our till system back office will recognize the transaction within 3-5 minutes and ensure your membership is valid until March 31st, 2027.

• Payment Methods: Please DO NOT attempt to pay by bank transfer or cheque as in previous years.
• In-person Assistance: If you require help with the process Vicky will be at the club to assist with sign-ups from 6pm to 8pm on the following dates:

The Value of Membership

• Cricket players: We do not have any “extra” charges for cricket teas or match fees, which can cost up to £10 per game elsewhere.
• Social Members: While general costs are rising, you will continue to benefit from highly-competitive pricing at our bar. The typical price advantage over non-members is at least £1 per alcoholic drink, which quickly adds up.
• Club Growth: Membership fees allow us to continue growing and providing the best possible facilities to sustain Greenmount CC for the long term.

Important Deadlines and Information

• Lapsed memberships: Current memberships will automatically lapse on 1st April, 2026. If you haven’t renewed by then you will be charged full price at the bar.
• Cricket Deadlines: Playing memberships must be paid in full before the league season commences on April 19th. However, as noted above, higher bar prices will apply starting on 1st April if unpaid.
• Membership Cards: You won’t need a new card. Please keep your current one.
• Incorrect email details: After operating a paper-based system for so long, it is inevitable that some records may be inaccurate. You can help us update our records by emailing: gcc.marketing@greenmountcricketclub.com or speaking with Vicky during our assisted sign-on evenings.

• Juniors: Junior memberships will be handled separately via the Spond mobile app. We will hold our first outdoor junior training on Friday, 17th April, where we plan to process new sign-ups and renewals.
• New members: New memberships will be processed via an application form available at the club. Once approved an account will be assigned to enable member bar prices.

And Finally…

Any new process will inevitably have teething issues and will likely not be perfect the first time around. Please be patient with us; we can sort anything out as long as we have the right information.
