Greenmount’s triple promotion dream stayed on track as all three senior sides registered wins again at the weekend.

The first team entertained bottom club East Lancashire on Saturday and ran out convincing nine-wicket winners.

Skipper Travis Townsend won the toss and elected to field – a decision that was fully justified as the Blackburn club were dismissed for 110 all out.

Professional Jacques Snyman took four wickets; Noah Birtwistle three while there was two for Townsend and one for Ishy Patel.

The Mount reply was dominated by Snyman who blasted a terrific unbeaten 90 that included eight fours and seven sixes.

The target was reached in 11.2 overs for the loss of only one wicket.

The second eleven, meanwhile, made the trip to East Lancashire and continued their rich vein of form with a one-wicket triumph.

Leading the way with the ball was Rion Dalugoda with three wickets; Ryan Senior and Ben Clarke had two apiece with one each for father and son duo Jake and Liam Riley.

It was a close call in the Mount response despite a good 46 from Ryan Senior.

A five-wicket collapse for only 17 runs took the villagers from 149 for 5 to 166 for 9 before skipper Dixon (10 not out) and Jack Hallows (2 not out) saw their side home in the 42^nd over.

Another fine victory for the third team leaves them sitting pretty at the top of their division, perilously close to promotion.

On Sunday their entertained Norden at the Log Cabin and won by 80 runs.

Norden won the toss and elected to field and gave the home side something to think about by dismissing both Noah Birtwistle and Wes Young with the score on zero.

Nevertheless a superb innings of 83 from Tom Clarke with good contributions from skipper Mark Crowther (39) and Liam Riley (25 not out) saw the Mount reach 202 for 9 from their allotted 40 overs.

Norden fell well short of what was required in the chase, finishing on 122 for 8 at the close of play.

In the wickets for Greenmount were Liam and Jake Riley with three apiece with one each for Adam Clarke and Harry Nuttall.

Another three-match winning weekend for the Mount keeps all three senior teams firmly in the promotion chase in each of their divisions.

The first team travelled up the valley to Rawtenstall on Sunday and were rewarded by a nine wicket triumph that yielded them a crucial 12 points.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat. Their professional Anuk Fernando top scored with 41 but their total of 134 all out was never going to be enough against the villagers.

Among the wickets for Greenmount were Callum Hunter, Travis Townsend and Noah Birtwistle who took two apiece with Ishy Patel, Jacques Snyman and Amal Dalugoda each taking one.

The Mount reply saw professional Snyman again in top batting form with an unbeaten 70 and after Tom Heaton was dismissed for 35, Evan Dobson (18 not out) and the pro got their side over the line inside 20 overs.

The second eleven moved into second place in their division with an easy win over Rawtenstall at the Log Cabin on Sunday.

A fine batting display saw them rack up 289 for 3 from their 45 overs with Sam Greenhalgh taking the plaudits with 77 while fellow opening Nigel Franklin scored 58 and Toby Leach finished unbeaten on 56. Harry Nuttall (15) and Ryan Senior (36 not out) made up the rest of the total.

Wickets fell with alarming regularity for the visitors in the reply and they were skittled for 70 all out inside 18 overs.

A superb six-wicket haul from Rion Dalugoda and three from skipper Oli Dixon put Rawtenstall to the sword.

The thirds visited Rochdale III on Saturday and further cemented their table-topping credentials with a 44 run victory.

Skipper Mark Crowther won the toss and elected to bat and his charges ran up 221 for 4 from their 40 overs.

Noah Birtwistle scored a superb 73 while Toby Leach (50) hit his first of two unbeaten half centuries for the weekend. Matt Donnelly scored 35 and Wes Young and Tom Clarke hit 15 and 19 respectively

Rochdale’s response was always going to be insufficient and they were left adrift at 177 for 3 at the end of their 40 overs.  Tom and Ben Clarke and Noah Birtwistle took the wickets.

Victories for all three of Greenmount’s senior teams at the weekend ensured that each maintained their lofty positions in their respective divisions.

The firsts entertained Accrington at the Log Cabin on Sunday and ran out winners by six wickets.

Skipper Travis Townsend won the toss and elected to field and a superb bowling spell by professional Jacques Snyman – who finished with league best figures of 7 for 24 – played a large part in the visitors being restricted to 118 all out.

The villagers’ early response didn’t exactly go to plan when both openers Snyman and Tom Heaton were back in the pavilion with the score on six.

Nevertheless a good partnership of 81 between Andy Kerr (39) and Townsend (38) moved things along before Cameron Mapstone (17 not out) and Gav Nicholl (9 not out) eased the Mount over the line for another vital 12 points that keeps them top of the Division Two table.

Meanwhile, the second team travelled to take on their Accrington counterparts and they too enjoyed a six wicket triumph.

Accrington won the toss and chose to bat but they found Liam Riley in magnificent form with the ball and his 5 for 8 from 12 overs along with two wickets for Adam Clarke and one each for Dexter Crowther and Liam’s son Jake saw them slump to 79 all out in the 33^rd over.

That total was reached for the loss of four wickets in the 26^th over with Harry Nuttall top scoring with 22.

The result keeps the second team sitting in third place in the table.

On Saturday the third eleven kept on track at the top of the table when they enjoyed a seven wicket win against Todmorden at the Log Cabin.

Todmorden chose to bat first and ran up a total of 165 all out in the 40^th over.

Among the wickets for the Mount were Adam Clarke (4 for 35), Noah Birtwistle (3 for 20), Dexter Crowther (2 for 24) and Matt Gilmore (1 for 27).

Greenmount reached what was required for the loss of only three wickets with Noah Birtwistle playing a superb unbeaten innings of 71.

Also in the runs were Wes Young (29), Toby Leach (26) and Tom Clarke (25).

Greenmount Cricket Club is delighted to announce the return of popular professional Jacques Snyman for the summer of 2026.

The South African all-rounder has been in supreme form and currently tops the Division Two batting chart.

Overall in his time at Greenmount his record with bat and ball has been outstanding and we are excited to see more epic performances in the remainder of this season and into next year.

This Friday (July 18th) Greenmount CC will be hosting a veterans T20 game against Lancashire League rivals Rishton CC.

There will be live music, a raffle, barbecue, a bottle bar, food from The Boundary and live singer Just Giorge will be entertaining from 8.30pm.

Greenmount’s first eleven maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the JWL Lancashire League Division Two table with a 47 run victory over Bacup at Lanehead.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, the Mount didn’t have things all their own way at the start of the innings and at 86 for 5 a commanding total looked unlikely.

Thankfully, middle-order knocks of 44 from Cameron Mapstone and 43 from skipper Travis Townsend gave the total a more respectable look and the villagers finished on 185 all out in the 48^th over.

In the reply, bowling figures of 4 for 30 from professional Jacques Snyman and 3 for 33 from Callum Hunter took the wind out of the home side’s sails and they were dismissed for 138.

Meanwhile, at the Log Cabin, the second string moved into second place in their respective table thanks to an eight-wicket triumph over Bacup seconds.

A fine unbeaten third wicket partnership of 104 from Sam Greenhalgh (61) and Toby Leach (51) – his second half-century of the weekend – saw Oli Dixon’s men home as they reached 154 for 2 in the 32^nd over.

The third eleven set the weekend’s winning standard on Saturday with a great four-wicket victory against their Middleton counterparts at the Log Cabin.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat, putting on 200 for 5 from their 40 overs. Taking the wickets for Greenmount were Dexter Crowther (2 for 31); Matthew Gilmore (1 for 24) and Max Birtwistle (1 for 34).

Good knocks of 60 from Max Birtwistle; 54 not out from Toby Leach and Harry Nuttall (37) did the business for the thirds who reached their target for the loss of six wickets in the 39^th over.

Greenmount Cricket Club are sad to report that former player, committee man and long-time club member Roger Foy has died at the age of 79.

Roger (pictured) was second team captain during the 1980s and was involved in the club’s junior set-up which brought through a number of talented cricketers including his son Darron.

His funeral will be held at East Lancashire Crematorium, Radcliffe on Thursday, July 17th at 2.30pm and afterwards at the Log Cabin where the family invite everyone to share their memories of Roger.

Greenmount’s hopes of a Worsley Cup final appearance this summer fell by the wayside after a disappointing eight-wicket semi-final defeat against local rivals Ramsbottom on Saturday.

The Mount never got to grips with the Rammy attack and were 40 for 7 when Callum Hunter became Matt Burdaky’s fourth victim of the day.

Andy Kerr held the innings together somewhat with an unbeaten 64 while there was a useful contribution from Noah Birtwistle (26) as the villagers ran up a total of 145 all out from 44 overs.

The Rams had no problem reaching that target mainly thanks to an unbeaten third wicket stand of 102 between Ben Pearson (54 not out) and skipper Harry Caton (48 not out) and they reached what was required for the loss of two wickets in the 37^th over.

It was back to league action for the firsts on Sunday and they continued their fine top-of-the-table run with a six-wicket triumph over Colne at the Log Cabin.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat putting on 167 all out in the 48^th over.

The Greenmount paid man then turned his hand to batting to rack up a fine unbeaten 94 and see his side home for the loss of four wickets in the 29^th over.

Tom Heaton and Andy Kerr both hit 23 in the reply.

The second eleven enjoyed a fine two wicket victory against top-of-the-table Lowerhouse seconds at the Brooks Foundation Ground on Sunday.

They reduced the home side to 139 all out with Rion Dalugoda (4 for 50), Noah Birtwistle (3 for 41), Liam Riley (2 for 18) and Dexter Crowther (1 for 28) among the wickets.

Not for the first time, the evergreen Nigel Franklin top scored in the reply with 35 while there were good contributions from Max Birtwistle (26) and Toby Leach (24).

The Mount knocked off the home total for the loss of eight wickets in the 36^th over.

While the firsts were going down to a Worsley Cup defeat on Saturday, the third team also slumped when Littleborough thirds were the visitors to Brandlesholme Road.

Greenmount won the toss and chose to field and saw the visitors post a total of 163 for 7 from their 40 overs.

In the reply the villagers fell 25 runs short despite great contributions from brothers Tom Clarke (54) and Adam Clarke (41). Toby Leach was the only other Greenmount batsman to reach double figures with 13.

Despite the defeat the thirds still hold onto top spot in the table.

A double dose of Crompton CC saw Greenmount end their T20 Competition fixtures on a losing note but victory against the Shaw side on Sunday resulted in them extending their lead at the top of the JWL Lancashire League Division Two table to seven points.

On Friday, at Glebe Street, the firsts went down to a four wicket defeat despite professional Jacques Snyman hitting 51 from 57 balls – including three fours and a six – and putting on 78 for the second wicket with Travis Townsend (36).

Nevertheless the Mount total of 120 for 3 proved insufficient as the home side crossed the line in 19 overs mainly thanks to Denis Louis who hit an unbeaten 51.

Fast forward to Sunday’s game at the Log Cabin and the runs flowed.

Snyman blasted a superb 122 including eight fours and ten sixes and with Travis Townsend hitting 60 (eight fours and two sixes), Gav Nicholl unbeaten on 51 and Cameron Mapstone 26 not out, the 321 for 5 total was always going to be a tall order for the visitors.

And so it proved, as they were bowled out for 152 with the wickets shared between Snyman and Amal Dalugoda (three each) and Callum Hunter and Ishy Patel (two apiece).

As mentioned earlier, Church’s narrow one run defeat at Colne has allowed the Mount to stretch their lead at the top to seven points.

Meanwhile the second team were going down to a 51 run defeat at Glebe Street. Crompton’s total of 217 for 6 proved a bridge too far for  a youthful side and despite a good 52 from Toby Leach, 36 from Tom Clarke and 26 from Nigel Franklin they were all back in the shed for 166 in the 34^th over.

Greenmount moved to the top of the JWL Lancashire League Division Two table and into the semi-finals of the Worsley Cup after a great weekend.

Yet it started on a losing note when local rivals Ramsbottom visited the Log Cabin on Friday night and after a closely-fought encounter, claimed a four wicket victory in the T20 Competition.

After the Mount posted a total of 136 all out – with Andy Kerr top-scoring with 35 – the Rams won with just three balls remaining.

On Saturday a tough visit to Norden in the Worsley Cup quarter-final was on the cards, however, a fine batting display saw the villagers over the line and lined up a tasty semi-final at Ramsbottom on Saturday, July 5^th.

After Norden scored 239 for 9 from 44 overs (Jacques Snyman 4 for 33) the Mount reached their target for the loss of six wickets.

There was a fine performance from Evan Dobson who hit an unbeaten 70 with Snyman (55), Gav Nicholl (43) and Travis Townsend (32) also making useful contributions.

A six-wicket triumph over Nelson at the Log Cabin on Sunday took the club to the top of the league.

After the visitors had posted a challenging total of 246 all out, professional Jacques Snyman again showed his undoubted class with a terrific 136 that included 18 fours and two sixes as the Mount chased and overcame a revised target of 228 from 45 overs.

Also on Sunday, the second team picked up a fine victory on the road at Walsden.

The home side scored 161 for 7 from their 45 overs but a superb unbeaten innings of 66 from Nigel Franklin was the mainstay of the Mount reply in a nine-wicket success.

Sam Greenhalgh (40) and Harry Nuttall (20) were also among the runs.

In a rare occurrence the third team tied their game at Great Harwood on Saturday.

Chasing a total of 146 for 9 from 35 overs Mark Crowther’s men equalled that amount for the loss of seven wickets.

Adam Clarke (37) top scored with Liam Riley (28) and Wes Young (23) also chipping in.
