Well it didn’t come home again, but who’s really surprised, honestly?

However, we did have the satisfaction of beating France, so finishing third felt a bit better!

Now that’s over with, can we just watch some cricket instead? Here’s a quick round-up of where we are as we come to the last weekend of July.

CRICKET

Match Results

• First team: Made short work of Darwen moving to fifth in the Premier Division with a fifth win in the last six matches. Amal Dalugoda (4 for 24) and Callum Hunter (3 for 23) took the bowling honours, while a typically belligerant 66 from Jacques and an unbeaten 27 from Travis saw us comfortably home.
• Second team: Slipped to a sixth consecutive defeat with a heavy loss at Darwen.

Upcoming Fixtures

• Saturday: The third team travel away to Haslingden.
• Sunday: The first team look to continue their push for a top four finish when they entertain Littleborough at home. The Second team are away in the corresponding fixture at Littleborough.

CHARITY T20 AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY

We’ve plugged this event a few times already, but we’re going to carry on until we’ve got everyone’s attention!

Please put the date in your diaries to get along to the club and support this charity event. We are raising money for Bury Hospice in memory of Ursula Skinner who sadly passed away in February and we need your help to raise as much money as possible.

The match will feature Greenmount past playing ‘Legends’ and a select group of former Bolton League foes otherwise known as The Lash Ups. Any resemblance to the professional organisation The Lashings is utter nonsense!

GREENMOUNT CC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Greenmount first eleven made it five wins from their last six games with a seven wicket victory over visitors Darwen on Saturday.

The victory raises them to fifth in the Lancashire League Premier Division table and raises hopes of qualification for the Lancashire Knockout competition in 2027 (top six qualify).

Darwen batted first and were dismissed for 120 with Amal Dalugoda (4 for 24) and Callum Hunter (3 for 23) the visiting side’s tormentors-in-chief, while there was a wicket apiece for skipper Travis Townsend, Ishy Patel and professional Jacques Snyman.

In the Greenmount reply, Snyman was again at his big-hitting best blasting 66 including six fours and five sixes.

Townsend, unbeaten on 27 and Cameron Mapstone (15 not out) saw the Mount over the line in the 21st over for another crucial 12 points.

GREENMOUNT v DARWEN SCOREBOARD

It was a different tale for the second team who made the reverse trip to face Darwen’s second string at the Brookhouse Aerospace Birch Hall ground.

Oli Dixon’s men went down to an 114-run defeat.

Darwen’s total of 188 for 8 proved too much for the Mount who were dismissed for 74 in the run chase.

Danny Hornby, Ryan Senior and Oli Dixon took two wickets each in the first innings with both Rion Dalugoda and Dexter Crowther getting one.

Only three Greenmount players reached double figures from their innings: Tom Clarke (18), Ryan Senior (16) and Liam Riley (16).

DARWEN II v GREENMOUNT II SCOREBOARD

Greenmount’s first team bounced back to winning ways at the weekend with a 65-run victory over Todmorden on Sunday.

Andy Kerr (62) and skipper Travis Townsend (61) grabbed the majority of the runs in Mount’s 187 for 8.

Tod were reduced to 122 all out with Amal Dalugoda (3 for 22) and Callum Hunter (3 for 40) while Andy Kerr finished with and amazing five catches from first slip.

TODMORDEN v GREENMOUNT SCOREBOARD

The second team against Todmorden’s seconds at the Log Cabin saw a few changes in personnel but threw up the wonderful occasion of a father/daughter appearance by Nigel and Freya Franklin.

Greenmount’s 165 for 9 featured a maiden senior 50 from Dexter Crowther but it wasn’t enough to contain the visitors who won by five wickets with ten overs to spare.

GREENMOUNT II v TODMORDEN II SCOREBOARD

The third team put up a valiant performance against Burnley on Saturday with 14-year-old Rion Dalugoda (68) and Tom Clarke (60) forming the backbone of a 190 for 8 total.

Burnley had to sweat for the win, edging home by three wickets despite 4 for 39 from Dexter Crowther and 3 for 34 from Matthew Gilmore.

GREENMOUNT III v BURNLEY III SCOREBOARD

This week’s performance of the week honour goes to Andy Kerr for his 62 runs and five catches against Todmorden. Andy is sponsored by SAB Electrical.

After three consecutive victories it was down back to earth for the first team when they were defeated by a strong Burnley side at the Log Cabin on Sunday.

The Mount had their visitors on 121 for six before professional Ockert Erasmus (55) and Jack Brunt (34) put on 71 for the seventh wicket helping their side to a final total of 221 for 9.

Callum Hunter took three wickets, Travis Townsend two and there was one each for Jacques Snyman and Ishy Patel.

Despite a terrific milestone reached by Mount professional Snyman (37) – he took his 200^th wicket for the club and passed 10,000 career runs in his 100^th appearance – his opposite number and fellow South African took the plaudits as his 5 for 30 with the ball was instrumental in reducing the villagers to 142 all out and a 79 run defeat.

It was a day of celebration all round for Erasmus who on the day passed 10,000 career runs and 700 wickets – some achievement!

GREENMOUNT v BURNLEY SCOREBOARD

Up at Burnley the second eleven were well beaten in the corresponding fixture.

The home side batted first and put on 219 for 5 from their 45 overs with Rion Dalugoda taking 3 for 32.

Despite a useful knock of 47 from Sam Greenhalgh that total proved insurmountable for the seconds who finished on 166 all out in the 40^th over.

BURNLEY II v GREENMOUNT II SCOREBOARD

Greenmount firsts rounded off the first half of this summer’s campaign by reaching fifth place in the JWL Lancashire League Premier Division.

On Saturday they defeated lowly Clitheroe by four wickets at the Log Cabin for another ten-point haul.

Clitheroe won the toss and elected to bat and were indebted to an unbroken last wicket stand of 48 between Marcus Sharp (23) and Cole Hayman (23) to reach a total of 196 for 6 that seemed unlikely earlier in their innings.

Their professional Diego Rosier led the way with the bat with 77 before he was adjudged LBW by his countryman Jacques Snyman.

The Mount bowling plaudits went to Amal Dalugoda who opened and took 4-41 from his 15 overs.

Once again, the villagers’ professional Snyman proved in fine form with the bat smashing 109 (fourteen fours and six sixes) with Max Birtwistle hitting 34.

When rain intervened after 29 overs with the Mount on 166 for 6 they were well ahead of their Duckworth-Lewis target of 138 to secure victory.

GREENMOUNT v CLITHEROE SCOREBOARD

On Friday night Snyman was again in devastating form when he hit 134 in the club’s final T20 game at Rawtenstall.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, Mount scored 228 for 5 with Tom Heaton hitting 50 and skipper Travis Townsend blasting one four and three sixes in his 25.

Snyman’s knock came in 61 balls including nine fours and thirteen sixes.

It was always going to be a bridge too far for the home side whose innings closed on 171 for 6.

Tom Heaton finished with three wickets while there were one each for Callum Hunter, Ishy Patel and Jake Riley.

RAWTENSTALL v GREENMOUNT SCOREBOARD

While the firsts were winning on Saturday afternoon the seconds made the opposite trip to Clitheroe.

Winning the toss and batting first the Mount were all out for 149 with Kieran Edwards (41), skipper Oli Dixon (21) and Nigel Franklin (18) in the runs, albeit aided by 36 extras.

The Clitheroe reply was dominated by opener Jack Dawson who batted through their innings for an unbeaten 75 to see his side over the line at 152 for 9.

Mount skipper Dixon took 5 for 76 from his 12 overs and despite the one-wicket defeat his side picked up five useful bonus points.

CLITHEROE II v GREENMOUNT II SCOREBOARD

On Sunday the thirds made their way to Burnley to face Lowerhouse but went down to a 104-run defeat.

The home side batted first after winning the toss and put on 187 for 7 from their 40 overs.

Dexter Crowther claimed three wickets while there were one each for Rion Dalugoda, Ewan Malone, Tom Clarke and James Herbert.

That total proved too much for the Mount who slid to 83 all out in the 33^rd over.

Nigel Franklin top scored with 20 while skipper Mark Crowther and James Herbert scored 17 apiece.

Generations of talent

We had a wonderful showcase of club heritage at the weekend with four father-son combinations featuring over the weekend!

We were thrilled to see 14-year-old Rion Dalugoda make his home first team debut alongside his dad Amal – who had a great day himself taking four wickets!

Meanwhile, Iain and Ewan Malone; Nigel and Mitch Franklin and Mark and Dexter Crowther all featured together for the thirds.

Congratulations are due to our talented South African professional Jacques Snyman whose 73 runs against Enfield on Sunday takes him past an incredible personal milestone with more then 5,000 runs for the club.

For Jacques – who has been with the Mount for three-and-a-half seasons – to reach such a total is fantastic.

He has scored twelve 100s and 36 fifties during his time with us at a batting average of 67.

Added to that, he also tops this season’s JWL Lancashire League Premier Division batting by some distance.

And while we are on the subject of stats – he also only needs one more wicket to reach 200 for the club.

Greenmount firsts consolidated their position in the middle of the JWL Premier Division of the Lancashire League with a victory over bottom club Enfield at Dill Hall Lane on Sunday.

Captain Travis Townsend’s decision to bat after winning the toss proved the correct call as the Mount rattled up 287 for 6 from their 50 overs with the skipper putting in a superb batting display with a knock of 113 not out including 12 fours and six sixes.

Professional Jacques Snyman also hit 73 (seven fours and three sixes) to give the home side something to think about.

Enfield made a decent fist of their reply in the early stages and were 111 for 2 in the 27th over when opener Lewis Wright was dismissed for 52 – caught by Callum Hunter off the bowling of Noah Birtwistle.

As the home side continued to add to their total the turning point came when captain and danger man Adam Bracewell was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Jacques Snyman.

From then on, Greenmount took complete control and the final four wickets fell for 32 runs leaving Enfield 39 short.

In the wickets for the Mount were Callum Hunter (three), Jacques Snyman and Noah Birtwistle (both two) and Amal Dalugoda and Ishy Patel (one each).

Another 12 point victory leaves the club in seventh position in the table with 66 points. Twenty-two points behind leaders Walsden and 27 in front of bottom clubs Enfield and Clitheroe who are the visitors to the Log Cabin on Saturday.

ENFIELD v GREENMOUNT SCOREBOARD

The flickering hopes of progress in this season’s T20 competition were well and truly extinguished when Greenmount – who included a sprinkling of the club’s emerging young players – were defeated by visitors Rochdale on Friday evening.

Batting first, the Mount scored 167 for 2 with Max Birtwistle top-scoring with an unbeaten 57, while Jacques Snyman hit 48; Tom Heaton 40 and Cameron Mapstone 17 not out.

Rochdale’s reply was pretty much a one-man affair with sub-professional Anmolpreet Singh hitting an unbeaten 136. The talented Indian, who plies his trade for Denton West in the Greater Manchester League, took advantage of a few dropped catches to blast nine fours and an amazing 13 sixes in his total as Rochdale reached their target for the loss of five wickets in the fifteenth over.

GREENMOUNT v ROCHDALE SCOREBOARD

While the firsts were winning at Enfield on Sunday, the second eleven were going down to a five wicket defeat at the Log Cabin.

On a miserable day for the batsmen, only Nigel Franklin (32) and Dexter Crowther (30 not out) reached double figures as they slumped to 81 all out in 21 overs.

It was a target the visitors reached in the 25th over for the loss of five wickets.

Skipper Oli Dixon took 3 for 26 and Liam Riley 2 for 48.

GREENMOUNT II v ROCHDALE II SCOREBOARD

In the only other senior game at the weekend, the third team went down to an eight-wicket defeat when Clitheroe thirds were the visitors.

Winning the toss and batting first, skipper Mark Crowther top-scored with 36 as his side reached 139 all out from their 40 overs.

Son Dexter Crowther (27), Jake Riley (15), Harry Nuttall (13) and Ewan Malone (10) also chipped in with runs albeit not enough to secure victory.

Clitheroe cruised to victory for the loss of two wickets in the 24th over with Jack Dawson unbeaten on 78 and Sam Dugdale adding 52.

GREENMOUNT III v CLITHEROE III SCORECARD

Greenmount’s first eleven came to grief on two knockout competition fronts at the weekend but that disappointment was tempered by a great victory in the league over local rivals Ramsbottom at the Log Cabin on Sunday.

On Friday evening, the Mount travelled to Littleborough for their third T20 (JWL Manchester Craft) group clash but were no match for the home side whose professional Bryce Parsons was in fine form.

The South African hit a splendid 100 including four fours and eight sixes as his side ran up 198 for 3 from their 20 overs.

In reply, the youthful Greenmount side fell 72 runs short with only professional Jacques Snyman (56) and Ishy Patel (15) reaching double figures.

LITTLEBOROUGH v GREENMOUNT SCORECARD

On Saturday, it was a return to Norden in the quarter-final of the Worsley Cup, following a comprehensive 168-run defeat at Stag Park the Sunday before.

Although they bowed out of the prestigious competition on the day, it proved a far cry from the one-sided encounter six days earlier.

Norden won the toss and elected to field then dismissed the villagers for 117 all out in the 38^th over with Jacques Snyman (30), Andy Kerry (27) and Travis Townsend (23) scoring the lion’s share of the runs.

At 73 for 3 it looked a routine win for the home side but a flurry of wickets including a superb hat-trick for Dom Ashley had them teetering on 113 for 8.

Nevertheless, a single from Leighton Friend and a four from Rizwan Sadiq saw them over the line and left the Mount pondering what another 20 runs on the board would have done for their chances.

NORDEN v GREENMOUNT SCORECARD

Sunday saw neighbours Ramsbottom make the trip up the A676 hot on the heels of an impressive Worsley Cup victory against league leaders Walsden on Saturday.

However, they were brought down to earth with a bump following a six-wicket defeat that gave the Mount a big lift following their previous two games.

Skipper Travis Townsend’s decision to put the Rams into bat paid off as the Acre Bottom side were dismissed for 98 all out in the 25^th over.

Only Brad Fielding with a belligerant 52 including three fours and five sixes showed any resistance until he succumbed to Callum Hunter.

Ishy Patel was their tormentor-in-chief with terrific figures of 6 for 39 while Callum Hunter (3 for 40) and Jacques Snyman (1 for 18) took the remainder.

The Greenmount reply was led by Jacques Snyman who cracked 62 including eight fours and one six while victory was secured with a fifth wicket partnership of 18 from Max Birtwistle and Cameron Mapstone who finished unbeaten on 11 and six respectively.

The 12-point triumph leaves the club sitting in seventh position in the league table.

GREENMOUNT v RAMSBOTTOM SCORECARD

Meanwhile, on Sunday the second team made the return trip to Acre Bottom to face Rammy’s second string.

The home team were restricted to 117 all out with skipper Oli Dixon and Jake Riley taking three wickets apiece, Liam Riley two and one each for Danny Hornby and Dexter Crowther.

That total proved too much for Greenmount who finished on 103 all out. Harry Nuttall scored 33, Liam Riley 21 and Matt Donnelly 17.

RAMSBOTTOM II v GREENMOUNT II SCORECARD

After seeing off champions Lowerhouse last weekend, Greenmount’s first eleven pushed runaway league leaders Walsden all the way in a high-scoring clash at Brandlesholme Road on Sunday.

Unfortunately, they fell eight runs short after the visitors set a big total of 289 for 7 from their 50 overs.

Crucial in the Walsden innings was an opening partnership of 70 between Nick Barker and Cameron Hanson and a terrific fifth wicket stand of 123 between James Tierney (90) and Joe Gale (58).

Ishy Patel continued where he left off at Lowerhouse with the first three Walsden wickets, with Dom Ashley and Callum Hunter taking one apiece.

Mount’s reply was going well with professional Jacques Snyman (45) and Tom Heaton (44) putting on 79 for the first wicket; Andy Kerr added 46 before unfortunately having to retire with a muscle injury.

Patel (31), Max Birtwistle (23) skipper Travis Townsend (22) and an unbeaten 17 from young wicketkeeper Jacob Norris helped the villagers get within eight runs of their target to pick up five crucial bonus points for their efforts.

GREENMOUNT v WALSDEN SCOREBOARD

On Friday night the firsts travelled up the road to Haslingden for the first of their T20 group games. Unfortunately they slumped to a six-wicket defeat.

Greenmount won the toss and elected to bat scoring 133 for 7 from their 20 overs. Travis Townsend hit an unbeaten 28, Max Birtwistle 27, Callum Hunter 25 and Noah Birtwistle 23.

With three of the home batsmen back in the pavilion with the score on 25 the Mount failed to take advantage of that useful start and a good fourth wicket stand of 98 between Haslingden skipper Sean Hunsley (43 not out) and Adam Masood (53) swung the game.

With two victims each for Callum Hunter and Dom Ashley the home side eased home for the loss of four wickets in the 19^th over to take the two points on offer.

HASLINGDEN v GREENMOUNT SCOREBOARD

The only victory of all the club’s senior sides at the weekend came the way of the second team who travelled to Nelson and came home with an eight-wicket success.

Nelson opted to bat first after winning the toss and were dismissed for 113 in the 35^th over.

Amal Dalugoda with 4 for 26 was the leading Mount wicket-taker with Danny Hornby grabbing three, Jake Riley two and skipper Oli Dixon one.

It was plain sailing for the villagers in the reply as they knocked off what was required for the loss of only two wickets in the 26^th over.

Among the runs were Ryan Senior (33); Nigel Franklin (28), Mitch Franklin (20 not out) and Kieran Edwards (16 not out).

NELSON II v GREENMOUNT II SCOREBOARD

On Saturday at the Log Cabin the third team went down to a seven wicket defeat when Littleborough thirds were the visitors.

After winning the toss, Mark Crowther’s lads batted first and were 155 all out in the 39^th over.

Among the runs for Greenmount were Rion Dalugoda (47), Noah Birtwistle (38), Crowther himself (23), Jake Riley (21) while Ed Cunnington finished unbeaten on  11.

Unfortunately, that total proved to be insufficient as Littleborough reach their target for the loss of three wickets thanks mainly to opener  Izzack Schofield who scored 63 and Steven Morris who ended up with 60 not out.

Harry Nuttall took two of the visitors’ wickets with Ed Cunnington one.

GREENMOUNT III v LITTLEBOROUGH III SCOREBOARD

It was a weekend to remember for Greenmount’s first eleven as they cruised into the Worsley Cup quarter-finals then saw off current Lancashire League Division One champions Lowerhouse on their own ground.

On Saturday Division Two leaders Rishton were the visitors to the Log Cabin and on winning the toss elected to bat.

Their total of 141 all out in the 38th over proved to be insufficient with three wickets apiece for professional Jacques Snyman and Callum Hunter, two for skipper Travis Townsend and one for Noah Birtwistle.

As for the Greenmount response, after the shock of losing Tom Heaton with only two on the board it was relatively plain sailing as Snyman hit 56 and Max Birtwistle (38) while an unbeaten 34 from Andy Kerr saw the Mount home for the loss of three wickets in the 29th over.

GREENMOUNT v RISHTON SCOREBOARD

On Sunday Ishy Patel was in devastating form when he put in a career-best 6 for 21 from nine overs at Lowerhouse.

The Burnley side had no answer to the Mount paceman and were skittled for 118 all out. Jacques Snyman took 2 for 26 while there was a wicket apiece for Callum Hunter and Noah Birtwistle.

Snyman then hit 74 in the run chase with Andy Kerr chipping in with 28 as the Mount eased to a seven-wicket win in the 22nd over for a welcome 12 point haul.

LOWERHOUSE v GREENMOUNT SCOREBOARD

It was a different story for the second eleven who departed the Junior Cup at Crompton then lost to Lowerhouse’s seconds on Sunday.

At Glebe Street on Saturday – after winning the toss – Crompton were all out for 134 with skipper Oli Dixon taking 4 for 27 from his ten overs and Harry Nuttall picking up three wickets.

But the Mount reply never seriously looked like reaching that total, although worthy of note was a stubborn last wicket partnership of 34 between Dexter Crowther (34) and Freddie Collier (10 not out).

CROMPTON II v GREENMOUNT II SCOREBOARD

A day later at the Log Cabin, Lowerhouse’s first innings total of 208 for 8 proved a bridge too far.

Only Kieran Edwards (26) and Ryan Senior (16) reached double figures as the Mount slid to a 97 run defeat finishing on 111 all out.

GREENMOUNT II v LOWERHOUSE II SCOREBOARD

The thirds were in action on Bank Holiday Monday but went down to a three wicket defeat at Great Harwood.

Good knocks from Harry Nuttall (41), Tom Clarke (40) and Dexter Crowther (24) were the mainstay of the Mount’s 160 for 8 total from their 40 overs.

Nevertheless, the home side emerged victorious for the loss of seven wickets thanks mainly to two half centuries from William Armer and Max Cocken.
