Well that’s another cricket season over! Thanks to everyone who has played, supported, officiated, scored or simply observed in a mildly inebriated state from the patio!

And special thanks, as always, to Andy Skinner and his helpers for keeping the ground in tip-top condition throughout the summer which has allowed us to host some great matches.

Bury Hospice Charity Event

The final amount raised from this event was a stunning £9,070!!

This is a fantastic effort and members of Greenmount Cricket Club please take a bow. We thank you so much for your support.

Thanks also to everyone involved on the day. A brilliant club effort, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the energy and commitment from Ian Senior and Wesley Young.

Live at the Log Cabin returns

Now the night’s are drawing in and the cricket has finished, it’s time to start our new events and entertainment programme for the autumn.

Saturday, 17th October: Rock Night – Live Band – Trash Panda.

• Expect tracks from Thin Lizzy, Stereophonics, The Cult, Billy Idol, Foo Fighters – basically killer riffs and wall-to-wall roch classics!
• PLUS: when the band finishes our Rock DJ will keep the party going with more huge anthems and floor fillers.
• Tickets are available now, priced at just £10.
• Available to buy from Audrey’s Kitchen counter and box office from Friday (18th September) at 5pm.
• You can reserve at the bar anytime for payment and collection via the Audrey’s Kitchen counter.

Greenmount CC Board of Directors

Greenmount’s first season back in the Premier Division of the Lancashire League finished in exciting fashion at Clitheroe on Sunday.

The first team achieved a place in next season’s Lancashire Knockout competition (it’s a big like getting a Champions League place!) defeating Clitheroe by three wickets to finish a highly creditable fifth place in the table.

Skipper Travis Townsend played a real captain’s role with a match-winning 79 including six sixes, ably supported by Cameron Mapstone with a hard-fought 45.

But it was left to Callum Hunter and Ishy Patel to navigate us over the line in gloomy light against some rapid bowling.

They managed it – cue pandemonium in the substantial travelling support!

Thanks to everyone who made the effort to go over to Clitheroe and get behind the team. Your support does make a difference to the players and it is much appreciated.

CITHEROE v GREENMOUNT SCOREBOARD

The second team put up a fighting performance against their Clitheroe counterparts but went down at home by five wickets.

Sam Greenhalgh took 3 for 39 and Nigel Franklin made 38. The challenge now is to bounce straight back up next year.

GREENMOUNT II v CLITHEROE II SCOREBOARD

Thanks to our South African professional Jacques Snyman for another fantastic year where he finished top of the Premier Division batting leaderboard.

Overall, Jacques scored 1,341 runs at 53.6 and took 41 wickets.

In the four seasons and 108 matches with Greenmount, Jacques has now amassed 5,605 runs at 66 with forty 50s and fourteen 100s. He’s also taken 209 wickets and 57 catches.

Good luck for the domestic season ahead Jacques, thanks for this season and we’re already looking forward to welcoming you back to the Log Cabin next season.

The final count of money from the Bank Holiday Charity T20 Day in aid of Bury Hospice and in memory of Ursula Skinner, reached an amazing £9,070.

The total is testament to the hard work of Ian Senior and Wesley Young (who did the heavy lifting!) and all volunteers who helped in the organisation ahead of the event and on the day, not forgetting the players who gave up their time to play and sponsors, members and non-members who contributed financially to that fabulous total.

The absolutely outstanding effort represents the very best of Greenmount Cricket Club.

We asked – you delivered in spades! Our big Bank Holiday Charity fundraiser for Bury Hospice in memory of Ursula Skinner has been a huge success.

Monday was a truly memorable occasion and a large crowd attended despite unpredictable weather to enjoy some terrific entertainment.

The day showcased the very best of Greenmount Cricket Club with lots of fond memories, lots of fun and laughs, some bright future cricket prospects and incredible generosity.

Okay, so the BIG question is how much was raised? Well, we’re still in the process of finalising the total so next week’s round-up will have the answer.

But, so far it’s looking like we will have raised in excess of £5,000 for Bury Hospice. An amazing performance all round!

Massive thanks to each and every one of you, our members, who have given so generously to support such a wonderful cause. We’d like to thanks all our sponsors on the day and the players for giving up their time to taqke part in the match.

And a huge thanks to Ian Senior and Wesley Young, along with their team of volunteer supporters for organising the event. It really has been a huge labour of love and is greatly appreciated.

There’s always a danger of missing someone so if you were involved in any way – no matter how small – we thank and salute you!

CRICKET

Just two weeks remain of the season, this weekend sees the first team play their final home match as Enfield visit the Log Cabin on Sunday. Last chance to see Jacques this year so come down and give him a fond fairwell.

The second team visit Rochdale.

Meanwhile, last week saw all three teams fall foul of the weather with the big local derby at Ramsbottom washed out after only 14 overs.

AUDREY’S KITCHEN

Back from their travels, Charlotte will be raring to go this weekend from 5pm tonight (Friday). So now the holidays are over, kids are back at school, why not come down tonight and let the team take the stress out of mealtime?

Happily, it was a much better weekend to report this week.

The first team overcame Norden to win a high-scoring encounter by seven wickets, recording their first win in four weeks.

Chasing a challenging total of 285, the Mount made light work of the task with Andy Kerr batting through for a superb unbeaten 100.

Jacques Snyman entertained spectators with a trademark 93 and skipper Travis Townsend maintained momentum with 46 not out.

Andy and Travis’s winning partnership was unbroken at 118 by the finish.

The second team were well beaten at Norden, bowled out for 93 the home side knocked them off for the loss of three wickets.

Meanwhile, the third team enjoyed a well-earned win at Clitheroe on Saturday by just two wickets.

Ben Clarke led the way with the bat hitting a fine 40 including six fours.

However, the performance of the day came from young Ed Cunnington who had an outstanding match, snaring five wickets for just 16 runs and then scoring an unbeaten 19.

Ed had a fantastic weekend overall as he also achieved nine Grade 9s in his GCSE exams.

CLITHEROE III v GREENMOUNT III

All at Greenmount Cricket Club were saddened to hear the recent news of the death of Mr John Heaton.

John’s family have had a strong connection with the club for around 40 years with his wife Eileen acting as club secretary and his son Philip and now grandson Tom both playing successful first team cricket with the club.

He was heavily involved with junior cricket at a county level and in 2012 he published a book – “Who’d Have Thowt It” – about the history of Lancashire Schools Cricket Association and his involvement with it.

He played cricket for Radcliffe CC and was a well-respected teacher locally at Radcliffe and Tottington High Schools.

Our thoughts are with all of John’s family at this sad time.

His funeral will be at East Lancashire Crematorium, Radcliffe at 10.30am this Friday (28^th August) followed by a gathering at the Log Cabin.

Last weekend was one to forget results-wise as all three senior teams were defeated.

The first eleven were defeated at second-placed Walsden with only skipper Travis Townsend (34) and Ishy Patel (29) offering any resistance.

The home side made short work of the 132 target for the loss of just one wicket which came in the first over.

Meanwhile the second team missed out of a first win in ten by only seven runs.

Having bowled Nelson out for 155 (captain Oli Dixon taking four wickets), we fell short by a single-figure margin in the second consecutive tight finish to a game at the Mount.

Ryan Senior (42) was the main contributor with the bat.

The thirds also put in a battling performance on Saturday against Lowerhouse, only to go down by four wickets.

The performance of the weekend came in this match from 14-year-old Rion Dalugoda who struck a fine 71.

Despite two wickets apiece for Dexter Crowther and Ed Cunnington, Lowerhouse reached their target of 196 with ten balls to spare.

GREENMOUNT III v LOWERHOUSE III SCOREBOARD

On Saturday, Greenmount’s first eleven suffered a narrow three-run defeat in a thrilling encounter at the Log Cabin against last season’s champions Lowerhouse.

Professional Jacques Snyman once again entertained the sunshine crowd with a superb 66 from just 29 ball and also bagged three wickets.

Meanwhile, veteran campaigner Amal Dalugoda took another four wickets and Cameron Mapstone scored a battling 42 in a much-improved team performance.

Unfortunately, in a game of ebb and flow, Lowerhouse emerged the winners by the slimmest of margins. Nevertheless Mount picked up seven useful points for their efforts.

A much-depleted second team was heavily defeated in the reverse fixture at Lowerhouse.

Chasing a challenging home total of 275 for 4, the Mount were dismissed for 99 with Mitch Franklin top scoring with 25.

LOWERHOUSE II v GREENMOUNT II SCOREBOARD

The third eleven – away at Littleborough – won for only the second time this season.

Max Birtwistle with 53 runs and figures of 3 for 13 led the way with support from Harry Nuttall (39) and it was nice to see a rare appearance from Chris Sherrington who sealed the win with an unbeaten 25.

UPCOMING FIXTURES

This weekend the third team are at home on Saturday against Lowerhouse while on Sunday the second team entertain Nelson.

The firsts travel to second-placed Walsden on Sunday. With five matches remaining Greenmount have slipped to seventh and will be looking to get back to winning ways to break back into the top half of the table.

The club was saddened to hear the recent death of former player Ted Foster at the age of 90.

Ted was a familiar face on the Greenmount teamsheets during the 1960s, 1970s and into the 1980s with his left arm spin and medium pace bowling.

As well as a fine cricketer, Ted was a top notch table tennis player and a keen amateur footballer.

More recently – prior to his ill health – he would regularly be seen in the Log Cabin meeting up with good friends on a Sunday evening.

All at the club send sincere condolences to Ted’s family and friends.

His funeral service will be held this coming Monday (August 10th) at 3.30pm at East Lancashire Crematorium, Radcliffe.
