Greenmount have announced that professional Chesney Hughes has left the club for pastures new.
The popular West Indian paid man joined the Mount in 2020 and has enjoyed a three-season stint at the club.
He played a huge part in Greenmount’s first season promotion from the Lancashire League Division Two in 2020, scoring an impressive 760 runs at an average of 63.5. He also took 24 wickets.
Ches also featured in a new Lancashire League record stand with 320 runs with Andy Kerr against East Lancashire in an innings that saw him hit the league’s highest individual score of the season (159 not out).
Everyone at the Log Cabin would like to wish Chesney the very best for the future and thank him for his efforts during his time at Brandlesholme Road.
The club is proud to announce that Kieran Edwards of the second eleven and Nigel Franklin of the third team, both ended the season leading run scorers of their respectful leagues.
Kieran hit five 50’s and one excellent century in his total of 586 runs, averaging 48.83 in the league.
Meanwhile, Nigel hit a total of four 50’s and also hit a magnificent century in his 616 runs, averaging 51.33.
A notable mention should also to Jake Chadwick who also hit 505 runs for the seconds, putting him sixth in the overall charts.
A big well done to all three of you on a fantastic season with the bat!
Greenmount’s hopes of taking a giant leap to Lancashire League Division One safety came crashing around their ears when they went down to their relegation rivals Rochdale on Sunday.
It was a frustrating and bewildering watch at times as – chasing a meagre total of 90 – they failed to secure the victory that would have given them the edge going into the final two games of the campaign.

Rochdale found Mount bowler Callum Hunter in fine form and his 5 for 15 from seven overs, as well as professional Chesney Hughes’ 3 for 18 and skipper Ryan Senior’s 2 for 1, were factors in the home side failing to post what most people would judge a challenging total.
Nevertheless, a challenging total it proved to be due to a series of injudicious shots, a bizarre run out and culminating in a sickening final wicket when two of the club’s promising youngsters had almost dragged their teammates over the line.
Rochdale must have thought the writing was on the wall when Evan Williams hit two boundaries in the opening over of the reply but their dismay turned to delight when two wickets fell in the next one.
Hughes’ decision to go for a big hit two balls into his innings proved catastrophic as he completely misjudged Dale professional Sean Whitehead’s delivery and was stumped.
Three balls later Whitehead claimed another Mount scalp when Andy Kerr was caught off his bowling. Neither he nor Hughes had troubled the scorers.
But there was worse to come as 22 for 2 became 30 for 7 as Williams, Tom Heaton, Jack Harrison, Dan Stevens and Lewis Dove were returned to the clubhouse.
Ryan Senior and Matt Donnelly moved the score along before Donnelly was dismissed in controversial fashion.
As another well-rehearsed lbw chorus from the Rochdale players fell on deaf ears, they appeared to surround Donnelly who stepped aside to get out of their way.
Unfortunately for the Mount wicketkeeper he stepped out of his crease and Dale skipper Jamie Roche whipped off the bails and appealed to the square leg umpire who signalled a wicket.
The angry cries of ‘dead ball’ from the Greenmount supporters didn’t cut any ice with the officials who – after conversing with each other – decided the wicket stood.
Senior went on to score 13 before he became the ninth wicket with the score on 57.
Senior’s demise brought his cousin Matt Senior to the wicket and he, along with Callum Hunter gave the Rochdale plenty to think about.
Showing shot selection and judgment that was an example to their older teammates, they came within a whisker of winning the game putting on 30 runs before Senior was heartbreakingly run out just four runs from victory.
Man-of-the-match Hunter finished unbeaten on 26.
The seven bonus points picked up from the game keep the Mount two points ahead of Rochdale but with the final two game of the season against Darwen and Clitheroe – the two sides vying for the championship – on the horizon, Sunday’s result seems like an opportunity missed.
Meanwhile, the club’s second team were entertaining Rishton seconds and ran out 52-run victors.
The villager’s posted a total of 231 all out with the highlight a superb knock of 104 from Kieran Edwards. That target was too much for the visitors who slumped to 179 all out.
Top performer with the ball was youngster Adam Clarke who took 4 for 45 from his 11 overs in a fine display.
Mount’s third team had two matches over the weekend and travelled to Rochdale on Saturday to take on their fourth team.
Stand-in skipper Wes Young won the toss and elected to bat then saw his side score 148 for 9 from their 40 overs. Leading the way with the bat was Leigh Dickinson who finished unbeaten on 50.
Three wickets apiece for Steve Addleton and Sam Woolley and one each for Luca Addleton, Edward Dickinson and Charlie Exton proved the undoing of Rochdale who were dismissed for 127 all out in the 38th over.
The thirds went on to provide the Bank Holiday Monday entertainment at the Log Cabin and enjoyed a four wicket victory over their Nelson counterparts.
Nelson batted first and scored 182 for 5 with Adam Clarke adding two more wickets to his four the previous day while Edward Dickinson and Rory Daverage chipped in with one each.
The Greenmount reply was dominated by the evergreen Nigel Franklin who scored 101 but there was still plenty to do when he was dismissed with the score on 134.
Fortunately, Rory Daverage (21 not out) was on hand to help steer the ship home and the Mount reached the required total with four balls of their innings remaining.
A second victory in as many weeks catapulted Greenmount firsts out of the Lancashire League Division One relegation places when they saw off Todmorden at the Log Cabin on Sunday.
The villagers were indebted to two superb knocks from professional Chesney Hughes (137) and Andy Kerr (106) as they put on 328 for 4 from their 50 overs after winning the toss.

Hughes (13 fours and six sixes) and Kerr (eight fours and six sixes) blasted 201 runs for the second wicket after Evan Williams (26) was dismissed with the score on 50.
The Todmorden reply was soon in trouble when two wickets fell with the score on nine.
Professional Siriwardene (74) and Ben Sutcliffe (43) showed some resistance but the Yorkshire side fell 139 runs short of their target with Mount skipper Ryan Senior taking 5 for 47.
Meanwhile Greenmount’s second eleven enjoyed a 29-run victory against their Todmorden counterparts at Centre Vale.

Skipper Oli Dixon won the toss and elected to bat and his charges ran up 233 for 9 from their 45 overs.
Chief run scorer was Andy McGuinness who hit 93 (nine fours and two sixes) while there were also useful contributions from Kieran Edwards (33) and Ryan Edge (28).
That total proved a bridge too far for Tod who slumped to 204 all out in 40 overs. Rick Catterall took 4 for 33 and Tom Clarke 3 for 38.
On Saturday the third team made the short trip to local rivals Ramsbottom but went down to a narrow defeat.
The home side batted first and scored 178 for 7 from their 40 overs but despite opener Nigel Franklin’s 49 and 37 from Leigh Dickinson, Greenmount fell a frustrating six runs short despite the best efforts of Adam Clarke (15) Noah Birtwistle (14), Luca Addleton (11) and Sam Woolley (10).
Greenmount first eleven produced a much-needed victory over bottom club Middleton on Saturday to keep their relegation destiny strictly in their own hands.
The visitors won the toss, and with the scorching sun baking down, elected to bat leaving the Mount lads to sweat in the field.
They lost three early wickets by the time the score had reached 17 until professional James Price came to the crease and scored 118 helping his side to 233 for nine from their 50 overs.
Callum Hunter took 4 for 56 from 15 to top the Mount bowling plaudits while Matt Donnelly took four catches behind the stumps.
In the reply, Jack Harrison (0) was dismissed with the score on one before Tom Heaton (65) and Evan Williams (31) put on 69 before Williams was dismissed with the score on 70.
Professional Chesney Hughes soon followed Williams two runs later then Dan Stevens hit a useful 29 before being run out as the total reached 147.
That was the cue for a match-winning six-wicket partnership of 88 between Lewis Dove (49 not out) and skipper Ryan Senior (40 not out) as the Mount eased home for a welcome five wicket victory in the 47th over.
Meanwhile, at Towncroft, Greenmount’s second string were taking on their Middleton counterparts but went down to a disappointing defeat.
Oli Dixon won the toss for the Mount and elected to bat and his charges were 192 all out from 44 overs.
Openers Sam Greenhalgh (63) and Henry Dickinson (58) top scored for the villagers while there was a cameo performance later in the innings from Rick Catterall who scored a season’s best 28.
In response, Middleton were indebted to an unbeaten 86 from M. Shahid as they passed the Greenmount total in the 27th over for the loss of only three wickets.
Sunday saw Mark Crowther’s third team provide the entertainment at the Log Cabin when they faced Lowerhouse fourths.
It proved a long, hot day in the field for the Mount as an incredible knock by youngster Keagan De Vries (145 including 16 fours and seven sixes) allied to 80 from Shaukat Ali saw the visitors run up 286 for 4 from their 40 overs.
De Vries was eventually bowled by Adam Clarke who picked up two victims on the day. Edward Dickinson took Ali’s wicket.
Not surprisingly, the villagers’ reply fell 107 runs short at 179 all out.
Skipper Crowther top scored with 45 while there were other double figure contributions from Leigh Dickinson (30), Luca Addleton (20), Steven Addleton (19) and Tom Clarke (12).
It was a weekend to forget for Greenmount with all three senior teams losing over the weekend.
The first team – desperate for points at the wrong end of the table – travelled to Lowerhouse on Sunday to face a team they comprehensively defeated at the Log Cabin earlier in the campaign.
However, any hopes of a double over the Burnley side were quickly dashed when they lost the wickets of Jack Harrison and Tom Heaton inside the first three balls and then slumped to 7 for 3 in the fifth over when professional Chesney Hughes was dismissed.
Given that catastrophic start their total of 153 for 9 from 50 overs was something of a bonus and it was due in no small measure to contributions from skipper Ryan Senior (34), Evan Williams (34), Lewis Dove (32) and Callum Hunter who hit an unbeaten 21.
Joe Hawke was the pick of the Lowerhouse bowlers with 5 for 44.
In reply the home side were never in trouble and in the end a fifth wicket partnership of 70 between Dean Barlow (45 not out) and professional Stephen Parry (25 not out) saw them home for a six-wicket win in the 31st over.
The second eleven faced East Lancashire seconds at the Log Cabin and went down to a 20-run defeat albeit they picked up six bonus points.
The visitors decision to bat first paid off as they put on 249 from 44.4 overs in the sunshine with opener Sohail Mohammed hitting 90. Rick Catterall took 4 for 62 for the Mount.
Despite the best efforts of Nigel Franklin (54), Andy Bowker (40), skipper Oli Dixon (28) and Kieran Edwards (21) the villagers fell short of the required total with Sohail adding four wickets to his tidy knock in the first innings.
On Saturday the third team travelled to Todmorden to face their thirds and after winning the toss put the Centre Vale side in to bat.
The home side put on 203 for 5 from their 40 overs with Ben Gledhill (78) and Jack Atherton (77) scoring the lion’s share of the total. Adam Clarke bowled both of them while Max Birtwistle took the other three wickets.
Greenmount’s response fell well short of their target as the finished on 123 all out in the 39th over. For the Mount, Nigel Franklin hit 28, Tom Clarke (17), Iain Malone (14) and Noah Birtwistle (11).
The club’s Brandlesholme Road ground will host an Under-18 inter-league game between the Lancashire League’s U-18s and the Greater Manchester League U-18s this Friday (August 12th).
Greenmount’s Matthew Senior will captain the Lancashire League select and action begins at 11am.
